Thanks, but I've found that 8th graders reeeally don't bring out my caring side, lol Moody adolescents, ugh. Whoever that guy was that did that to you, I sure hope some bad karma found him

Lol, well still I'm sure you do a great job. Isn't (maybe I'm wrong) teaching 8th graders a tiny bit easier than 6th or especially 7th? or just the same angsty lot?
My family had asked me to keep an eye out for him , to try and figure out who he was. The whole thing happened in a split second. Obviously I didn't get to watch him saunter away, all I saw was his shadow and maybe a flicker of his body before he shoved me. Maybe he had to repeat 7th Grade many times and was never elected "King."

One time I was talking to a pre-K teacher who couldn't believe I preferred older kids to the "babies," but at least I can take an interest in what they're studying.

I came really close to being a middle school/high school teacher. I wanted to teach English.

I taught/directed preschool for a number of years and loved most all of it. I did spend a year or so on/off as needed) doing likewise for a school age afterschool and summer program. At the time I was adamant that preschool was for me. Those older kids came to mean a lot to. I never wanted to teach an actual grade.

I like older kids because I like to joke and be sarcastic. I always liked my middle school/high school teachers that were like that. I feel like I can joke around with older kids better than younger ones. How did we get on this topic in Mary Anne and the Memory Garden??

^Maybe because the book is so....strange... no offense to Amelia (it was horrible that she died the way she did) but the CA part really offset all that into weirdness.

^Any Dawn book does that! Plus, scary thought of it was that Dawn wasn't necessarily the problem, just the lead actor in it. I fail to get how an abandoned lot that most all Dawn's neighbors were aware of yet didn't stop their kids from being in (walking or running through) had anything to do with Drunk Driving. Unless of course, Mr. Crushniak's (sp) problem was that he daily indulged in alcohol and that was what made him indifferent to his property.

I realized what I read when I thought it might have been Kristy that was killed - it was the "preview" of #93 that was at the end of #92! It just says it's a 13yo who died; it doesn't say who. Guess I'm not as dumb as I thought - just had some memories mixed up.

I'm pretty sure that I am a heartless biatch b/c what I felt while reading this is that people pretend to grieve to be on some sort of bandwagon or to get attention. I see MA as one of those attention people - oh boo hoo b/c I was sort of friends with this girl. I only say that b/c of my experiences. My father died when I was 6 and I was out of school for a while, but I think I was so young it wouldn't have affected people but some girls cried when I came back to school. When I was a senior in high school, my boyfriend of 3 years was shot and killed in front of me and I truly hated people who cried for him. They didn't know him and I just felt it was a display of fake sympathy or something. I realize now of course that I was dealing with my own issues at the time, but I still feel that way when someone close to me dies. I feel like I want to slap people who I know were not close to the person yet they act as though their world is ending b/c of that persons death. Wow - clearly I still may need to see a Dr. Reese type and I still sound angry in this post....
On a better note, the bunny being mentioned in the eulogy touched me a little. When my grandmother died the priest didn't know her very well so he asked for a story from me and I told him about the time she glued my teddy bears eye back on b/c I was screaming like someone was hurting me (he was the most important thing in my life back them). The priest mentioned it in a very sweet way by saying - I know you knew she was mother, grandmother etc but did you know she was a doctor too ... and proceeded to tell that story. It was a sweet moment.
BTW - stupid Dawn chapters....she left let her go!!!!!

^That is so sweet, Wiggirl. Go your Grandma. I am glad you had her in your life. Reminds me of my own late-Grandma who besides fixing various stuffed animals for me, went to the great(er) lengths of creating miniature felt sleeping bags for my playmobil kids. As for this book, not much "new" to say except I wonder if any of MA's anger (I think she was more angry than sad) about Amelia was either Mimi or Alma based. If so, that could have been interesting to read about. Either would have made a much better subplot than "Dawn in the trash dump" a.k.a littered lot. On the other hand, a great opportunity for MA to apologize to Kristy and try to make ammends. I did like the SADD parts but thought they were more of an "afterthought" or "filler" than anything else. Much lighter note. I would have preferred seeing the snowmen dressed in Halloween costumes that MA mentions at the beginning.

Maybe hers is longer because she died and the ghsotwriters decided that it's more important to add in everything about her in The Complete Guide since she obviously won't be reappearing in any other books.

No, they put basically every fact that was available about the characters. Emily and Erica were never really fleshed out, not until later in the series, at least. We know more about Amelia because she had an entire book centered around her.
