^ I love the "memory like an elephant" ;D This totally describes my aunt, who swears she can remember from before she was born. Strangely, the only thing she can't remember from childhood is the time that she whacked my mom so hard in the head with a metal lunch pail (my mom was 5 and she was 6) by "accident" that mom had to go to the hospital and get stitches..... ;D Also love the "bloody knife" story. ;D I really enjoyed seeing a lighter side of Mr. Kishi in this book. I wish we would have seen more instances of him and Claudia having fun together - like it seemed when they went to get the film. He sounds like a great guy and good dad based on this book.

i like the kishi parents in terrible truth as well. finally, a bsc book where they actually go to their parents when they have a problem instead of trying to solve it themselves! i was reading baby-sitters beware earlier and it was like what? someone tried to BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE and you didn't bother to tell your parents that it was arson?

^ I also really like that one for the same reasons - Kishis and going to their parents. That always bugged me in the other books, especially since I still go to my parents with almost everything.

I just finished this one for the FIRST TIME EVER and I loved. Claudia is so horribly obnoxious, it's totally cringe-worthy. But I didn't mind because she learned her lesson. I didn't think I would like it very much because I don't care to read about the babies, like, at all.
I also love Claudia. She's not my favorite character, but I really like the books she narrates. They are some of my favorite.
Oh, and upthread: I've never been to Philly, but is "The Thinker" even located there? I thought the original was in Paris or Amsterdam or ... not the united states. Argentina? Um. Oh, and it looks like it might be bronze and marble, so it might not be an inconsistency or error in the book.

I should take Art History. I like learning about things like that, but I don't like creating art very much. I'm not very good at it.
I felt really bad for Peaches and Russ. And why did they all rush to the hospital?

Yay for the book threads thread! I reread part of this one last night, and I know I posted my thoughts on it before, but somehow Claudia grew even more annoying in the time between last night and my previous reread. Where Claudia found the money for all the junk food, art supplies, and hideous clothes she buys has always been a puzzle, but...is she dealing drugs or something? (Have we heard of anyone in Stoneybrook doing drugs? Maybe she sells airplane bottles of wine that fit in socks. I'm sure she could turn quite a profit on those when U4Me comes to town.) How does she afford all that baby stuff?! nuts's expensive. And lots of people have said it, but why is Claudia Lynn's godmother and namesake? Peaches and Claudia are both wacky, Mr. and Mrs. Kishi like Janine better than Claudia, blah blah blah DO PEACHES AND RUSS HAVE NO FRIENDS?! Claudia is already the child's COUSIN, how much does their relationship need to be fortified? Then again, P&R might really not have any friends, since the BSC members are their only non-Kishi visitors the weekend after Lynn is born. Or maybe their friends were all embarrassed to show up giftless after Claudia bought out the baby section of every store within bike-riding distance. Claudia saying Philthadelphia reminded her of New York City also rubbed me the wrong way. I have not been a fan of that city since I wore flip-flops there and saw a cockroach standing RIGHT NEXT TO MY FOOT. IT COULD HAVE CLIMBED ONTO ME IF I HADN'T NOTICED I said it in my last post about this book, but once more: Postpartum depression? Shut up, Claudia.Since I probably already sound gigundoly bitchy in this post, I'll go ahead and say that I kind of enjoyed Claudia and her friends being so cliquey and rejecting Melissa, because it reminded me of my friends and myself in middle school. I liked Melissa calling Claudia for packing advice, and Claudia just being, like, "Who is this?" And then Claudia complains about Melissa walking behind her and her friends, ignoring Lily. If she's behind the girls, then aren't they likely to be ignoring her, too? Stacey is annoyed by Melissa asking for her roll, so I wondered if maybe we were supposed to assume she was fat, which would totes rationalize the way the BSC girls treated her I did think it was pretty cute how Peaches says "oh, my lord," like Claudia does.

I always thought this as well. I've never heard of someone being both cousin and godmother.
I thought it was totally funny when Claudia basically ruined their coffee machine. Just what Peaches and Russ needed that early in the morning. And she went out and bought them another the same day! Seriously, how much money does the girl have?

my uncle is my brother's godfather. i think it's pretty common for people to choose family members as godparents.

I just read this one for the first time, and I really, really liked it. I was surprised; I thought I'd be really irritated with Claudia's behavior, which would make me hate the book. I DID find myself a little more interested in the Philly trip than the main plot, though. I wouldn't have minded seeing a whole book centered around that. I also kind of enjoyed Peter Lerangis's voice in this one. I can't call it Claudia's voice, because it didn't seem like her at all. There were a few moments that I actually had to remind myself that I WAS reading a Claudia book. Overall, though, I thought it was pretty well-written. I also found a couple of inconsistencies, but that's for another thread.
