Thanks for finding that, Candykane. Sparklymouse, I would have loved if any of them simply told Dawn to either bring her own snacks or thank Claudia for what she spent (extra money sometimes) on providing! Yes, I really wish Claudia, especially would have told Dawn to can it with her obvious disapproval. But then, the worst was Mary Anne in "BSC in the USA" when she allowed Dawn to dictate where they (and Verna) had lunch. If anyone, Verna should have gotten to pick since she was the one who had traveled there to meet up with MA!

I'm sure someone out there makes vegetable shaped gummy candies. I would laugh out loud if Claudia ever pulled out something like that for her. Haha, that would have been perfect!

Oh man, there are just some books I shouldn't read again! I have a really hard time understanding what jessi making all those calls to agents had anything to do with anything. Even her dads explanation that it was taking her mind away from ballet or whatever makes no sense at all to me!
The fact that Derek lied about John makes me question the entire validity of his day one school description of girls falling all over him and reporters being there.
One thing I did love was that the prizes at the party were toys from the cereal. Cereal isn't the same to me because their aren't any more toys. I wonder why? It makes me sad for kids nowadays that they don't have that.

I don't know! I never really noticed when I wasn't a kid anymore, but recently I looked and no toys at all! Not even a cheap lick on tattoo!

I've wondered when cereal toys stopped, too. I used to love them when I was a kid and I remember the cereal commercials that would mention the latest toy to look out for. Does Cracker Jack still have prizes inside or has that stopped too?

I think they still have the silly tattoos or stickers. So I googled this to find out and found several answers: 1. Dumb people were swallowing the toys (the article didn't say dumb people, but I think they are dumb!) 2. People were opening boxes in stores to take the toys and making the boxes unsellable 3. Cereal companies used the money for toys to make healthier cereal an breakfast options
I don't really know which is true, but I feel sorry for today's kids!

^ I grew up in a family of four kids, so it was rare that I actually got the prize, but still....it was nice just to know that they were there!

It makes me sad for kids nowadays that they don't have that. I didn't even know they don't have toys anymore, maybe they want to avoid lawsuits or food poisoning? I remember when we were kids, we would get baseball cards, puzzle pieces and stickers. Can you believe 45 records would be in boxes in the 70's? As for Derek, he just wanted to be a regular kid so badly, cause showbiz takes that away from you. And I'm sure some of it got to his head a little bit though he was generally a good kid. Jessi was simply starstruck, this isn't the first time. At least she wasn't a sociopath with it like Mallory!

I assumed they took the cereal toys away for the same reasons they tried to take Happy Meal toys away. They were encouraging kids to eat crap, or something like that.

Yeah that makes sense, I used to want full collections of whatever was a part of happy meal packages too

That's why, I haven't seen free toys in cereal box, for long time. That was my favorite, when I was growing up. If, i couldn't wait. My mom would tried dig in, with her cleans hands to get the toy for me or wait until the cereal was at the end.

I reread and liked it a little more than usual. I loved Claudia and thought she was awesome at the playground. Claud takes Derek and Todd to the playground where they run into 4 or 5 boys who have been teasing Derek at school. Claudia really did have a good head on her shoulders sometimes and a good heart, too. I think the boys nastily assumed Derek believed he was better than everyone else because he was a famous TV star. By having the boys see Derek's house and actually invite them in, they were able to realize that Derek, the real person, could be a good friend. I also enjoy the idea of the breakfast party and would have loved to attend.

^ The fact that they chose to have Derek's classmates react that way was an interesting choice, come to think of it. Generally, you'd think that everyone would WANT to be friends with the big tv star simply because he was famous. Was there any of that in this book? It's been awhile since I read it....
