^ The Sobaks really made me mad in this one. I didn't get the impression that they ever showed much remorse or even punished Betsy. Yeah, this was a case of Stoneybrook parental indifference gone too far. Betsy should've been made 100% clear that more practical joking was completely unacceptable. I don't know if a punishment in itself was necessary as it was all in fun and Betsy absolutely never intended for Claudia to obtain such a serious injury.

^ Agree. I mostly meant that the punishment (that wasn't really the right word, though) should have been taking away the jokes and making Betsy somehow feel consequences from her actions.

When I said I hated practical jokes, I meant the ones that result in someone feeling hurt or literally getting ill or injured. And that's what a lot of practical jokes can result in unfortunately

^ Agree. I was just thinking about this book because several of the early books mentioned Claudia's leg hurting. It seemed to cause big problems for her and I know my arm that I broke when I was 5 still hurts from time to time. Anyone notice that the books stopped mentioning the leg, though? I think as big of deal as it was at first, too, they should have mentioned some things about Betsy, etc. and I certainly wouldn't have just accepted her in the later books as well as they seemed to. Does it ever seem like they kind of forgot about this book? (Maybe I'm just not picking up on stuff, though.)

When Betsy was cast in the lead role in Claudia and the First Thanksgiving, I immmediately thought, well, if I was Claud I would not be sooo happy about it, because the kid broke my leg ;D
I can relate to Claudia's leg giving her problems every time it rains...I've never broken a bone, but I had surgery on my foot, and in bad weather it'll hurt.

^ I also thought about that in First Thanksgiving. Did Claudia say anything about Betsy? I definitely would have been like - no way am I dealing with her! Sorry about your foot, booboo. That sounds painful....

Thanks, aln. I had it done years ago, when I was like fifteen.
I'm pretty sure Claud didn't say anything about Betsy, because she apparently blew them all away with her acting abilities.

^ Hopefully. ;D Agree about Betsy being a little kid. Her mother on the other hand.... She never seemed all that remorseful to me but maybe it just wasn't shown in the book.

It's a nickname. It's pretty popular in some circles and generations. Sorry. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I realized after I posted that I probably shouldn't have. ;D I have heard the name before and was just commenting on it (shouldn't have - sorry, again ) I won't say any more so I don't jam my foot any further down my throat. ;D I agree that Betsy was just a little kid, which is why I hope that she learned what she did was wrong. It's better if kids learn right from wrong early on and it didn't seem like her parents were doing that great of job teaching her....
