^ Yeah, I see your point. I guess I thought that when I first read the book, but that was so long ago that I can't remember. But they do try to stop construction/demolition in Mary Anne and the Silent Witness. Maybe Scholastic was trying to save the excitement for then?

^I wish Mr. Hennessey had lived. (Not including "my" Mimi) he was the most interesting older character other than one-time Mr. Staples. No offense to Uncle Joe Pike, but Ronald Hennsssey was much more endearing. He could have been a great come-back character in "Kristy and the Missing Fortune," Mallory and the Mystery Diary," and even "MA Secret in Attic." Any book with some historical mystery. If he had lived, I bet Stacey, Kristy, and even Charlotte would have visited him again, bringing them closer but also giving him more "character."

I didn't really think he was endearing, but I did find him interesting. I would have liked to have heard more from him, particularly his creepy ghost stories

^ It was a bit creepy that he told this random, elaborate (fake) story. Some imagination that old guy had

The only reason I labelled him as "endearing" was because of his final note to Stacey. I think he felt some affection toward the girls and wanted to let them know that and that it was all a story. Do I think he should have told them the very strange tale to begin with? Of course, not. I also didn't like how he initially came across as very creepy. I guess what I was trying to say is his character could have been an interesting one to keep around.

I agree. That was endearing, because if he was genuinely creepy he probably wouldn't have send the letter. It was his way of saying "I'm sorry", I assume. Also - who wants to pass on knowing that they scared a bunch of 13 year old girls just hours before? haha

It seemed like at first Mr. H saw the girls has nosy meddlers but then got to care for them. I think it went vice versa to in that the girls liked him. He really could have been a perfect "Heritage Day" consultant or if Dawn/MA/Stacey had ever taken the time to look more deeply into their "historic" homes they might have come across others such as Mr. H's with a fascinating tale to them. A follow up would have made this "mystery" much more mysteriously interesting!

Haha virgoscoripo and yeah it would have been nice if Mr. Hennessey stuck around for Heritage Day. He was a great story teller. Karen Brewer probably would've gotten a kick out of his ghost stories. I especially liked the one with Old Rubbernose, whose nose was bitten off by a horse.

^As a child picturing a man with a rubber nose freaked me out. Did anyone else think the story about the woman in the green dress waking the man and having him follow her down the hall was kind of "adult" for BSC?

^ I don't know if I really thought about it much, but now that I do, I agree it's pretty adult. Although she could have wanted him to follow her down the hall for many reasons...

Ha, it was kind of suggestive because the lady in the green dress appeared every time the guy came to visit. It sounded like a ghostly love affair.

I liked this book a lot. Mr. Hennessy was an interesting character. I wish there was more closure in the ending, though. Kind of disappointing... but the story is enjoyable.
I felt sorry for Charlotte, when she was homesick. I got terribly homesick as a child, so I can really relate to Char in this book.

^ i get really homesick too. it's too bad charlotte never had an actual sister, because my parents have always worked long hours (like her parents did), and even when i was at the babysitter's or staying with friends, i always had my sister with me. it wasn't until i left for college that she and i were ever really apart, and charlotte could definitely use that constancy in her life.

I love the scene where Stacey is reading the highlights in the drs office. I used to love highlights and now I'm not sure why because I don't really remember much about them.
I always wanted to have a mystery where I lived, but I never got one.
