^ I also remember from a later book (maybe even a Friends Forever book) that Mary Anne has a picture of herself taken by Kristy on the day she got her hair cut. She mentions looking really unsure in it because she's worried about what Logan will think or something. Most of that is one big inconsistency. She didn't see Kristy until a few days after the big chop, and she knew almost right away that Logan was going to like it. At any rate, it WAS bizarre that the other girls in the club went from hating her hair to thinking it was cute. The only reasons I can think of for them not liking it initially are jealousy and the fact that they percieved her hair and clothes as the reason her behavior changed.

^ The book is a Friends Forever book. It's Mary Anne's Big Breakup.

an inconsistency that big is just inexcusable. it's like the ghostwriter skipped this entire book. or maybe they realized the club was being a bunch of cows and tried changing it.

I never thought they didn't like her hair. (Except for I think it was Dawn who called it a boy haircut. I think she blurted out what she really thought in that moment and then back tracked later when they were friends again.) Mary Anne could have picked any hair style and they would have acted the same way.

^ A lot of times when we blurt out something, it's really our own insecurities projecting back on us. In this case, I think it was Dawn and short hair, seeing as she has such loooovely, loooong, luscioooous, luxurioooous locks (or so they say - we never see it on the covers!)
Edited to add: blurt out something = pass judgement (in this case, the same thing?)

^ Yes, she did. That makes the fact that they were all raving about her hair afterwards even weirder. It's possible that they just needed time to get used to it because it was SO different.

Mary Anne should have gotten Pat Benatar-like makeup, but it was the 90's by then LOL

^ That WOULD have been a departure from Mary Anne's old look, wouldn't it?

And if we thought Dawn was bad, she would have been mad enough to fly back to Cali if Mary Anne went all out

I read most of this one while unexpectedly doing some late-afternoon laundry. I still don’t like the picture on the cover of MA’s haircut. However, I absolutely loved how Logan said on page 68, that what counted what that MA was happy with her haircut. Logan was a prince of a boyfriend in this entire book. For once, MA was more likeable. Dawn was atrocious, the other BSC Members not much better. Oldhickory, you made an interesting point up-thread about how Dawn’s Makeover came first and after everyone including MA jumped on her, perhaps she was rebelling here. ITA with you that that was no excuse for her plain rudeness but it’s something to think about. I also think that for Dawn, more glaring than her look was her personality. Lol, all of you know a Dawn (or MA) fan I’m not. To fit into a mold to please Travis, Dawn really did do a 180. MA didn’t change at all in this. Kristy tells MA that “we (BSC) said we didn’t like that cut on you.” The consequence of MA defying her “friends,” was becoming a “pariah.” Subplot, I’m not much of a Back to the Future Fan probably due to bad memory of 5th grade that associated with watching the movie in class. I did recently watch the Smurfs Episode where three “older” Smurfs get a second childhood (The Smurflings). “Father Time,” says he has only figured out how to go back in time not forward. Maybe Carolyn should consult with him. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_3Y72Gz3Vg Smurflings Episode

I actually liked Mary Anne's hair on the cover of this book better than on any of the others. Here, it looked a lot more like the description in the book. On almost every other cover, it looked like a cap. That makes sense, because the Mary Anne models had to wear wigs.

I do have to say that I kind of liked the ruffled, tossed look her hair had on the cover of Fire at MA's House. Other than that, I agree. He hair on the cover of Makeover reminded me of a Linda Evangelisa-style cut, which, I assume, was the look they were potentially trying to go for.
