I think it was "not exactly pretty but pleasant" or something like that?

Question: If Lewis had liked "Dawn" in her wild get-up and odd attitude starting on Page 133 (New Cover), would Dawn have maintained that "act?" Based on the rest of this story, it sounds like she would have. I think its safe to say this book (if not before) begins her patronizing over food. Sigh.
I felt horrible for Norman. I don't think his parents were giving him the time of day, they simply saw a fat kid not their son. :'/ Maybe because of their example, Sarah followed. I loved that he had a "real" (not imaginary) friend Teddy (wish he had come over to play) and girlfriend pen-pal Brittany. I wonder if Brittany was Zuni?
Other very funny moment were the triplets and Jeff spying on the girls during their slumber party. Loved that for once Adam, Byron, and Jordan were more like real people instead of "the triplets."

I find it crazy that they called boys at midnight on nye! I mean I do this now but no way when I was 13!
I think it is fun y how dawn mentions that no one gave ma a hard time when she changed her initial look. I though, just wait for it dawn when she changes it a bit later!

I loved how Kristy just yelled "Happy New Year, Bart-man" and hung up the phone. ;D

^ that's totally a "Do the Bartman" reference right there!
And I guess something good came out of Dawn's phase if she really wore what she did to the dance in Mary Anne's Makeover

I loved how Kristy just yelled "Happy New Year, Bart-man" and hung up the phone. ;D I love that part, too! ;D Apparently, Dawn didn't learn much from her experience with Travis when this book begins, but all the dumb things she does are entertaining to read about. I felt sorry for Norman . His pen-pal letter that Claud found was kind of sad. His family and the other kids were such jerks to him, too. I hope Norman grew up to be hot, just to spite them .

I love that Dawn has to learn from Mallory how to blow a bubble with her gum. It's funny to me that she decides to be a rebel by chewing bubble gum. It just highlights how the BSC are generally so perfect that even a stick of sugarless pink gum is a big change.
I do not care for the Hills at all and feel so bad for Norman in this book.

Haha, yes. Like Janet and Leslie popping their gum in #3.
This made me think Jerry O'Connell/Stand By Me ;D

I can't think of Norman Hill as hot. In my mind, he's forever seven which makes it wrong.

Do you guys think that Norman was way more obese than Jake? Jake just seemed a bit chubby.

I think we knew Jake a tiny bit better than Norman. Jake sounded like he shared Claud's love of junk food and snacks. "Kristy and the Walking Disaster," made it seem like he was probably at least 10 pounds or more over-weight...chubby. Norman, IMO, got a horrible deal home-wise. His parents (and sometimes sister) were downright cruel to him. He admitted that gorging made him feel better. I think he and Claudia might have shared a friendship if his character had been better developed since she, too, often snacks from need. All that said, in terms of weight, I do think he was heavier than Jake.

I think Jake was chubby (maybe he was about to go through a growth spurt, maybe he'd always been chubby) and Norman was obese. Jake also seemed to have a lot more confidence than Norman, probably because his family weren't a bunch of jerks.
