If someone said that joke in reality at school, the other kids would probably find it lame ;D

So true!
Haha, yeah the random cool girl... who was never mentioned again. Dawn has some quick thinking skills though!

This is by far my favorite BSC book, i haven't read it in awhile but I whined hard enough so that my boyfriend finally bought it off Amazon. I'll write more after I re-read but I loved Dawn's makeover, I thought it was cool! And the food descriptions were awesome!

Well, at first, Mary Anne helped out Dawn with her hair and makeup. Dawn said she was interested in experimenting, so I guess MA saw this as a bonding moment and she really went to town with the curlers and whatnot. Thennn, she started giving Dawn crappy advice from magazines, and it all went downhill when the advice backfired. "You Directed Conversations" (how do I remember this stuff?) was one of the articles....and there were tips about not eating food that could get caught in your teeth (which led to the great popcorn argument of '93 btwn Dawn & MA), among other things. Anyway, I really felt for Dawn when she had eyeliner running down her face and she used TISSUES to mop it up? Wouldn't that make it worse? Oh and that oufit from Zingy's...with the silver skirt...the striped shirt sounded cute, though. And I think the modified sweatshirt would have looked cute in the 80's, but maybe not the early 90's. In fact, isn't that stuff making a comeback? I'd totally rock a sweatskirt if I had one. BTW, taboule (sp?) salad is AWFUL. Unless you love parsley, don't try it. Siiiigh...I made that mistake. Hummus is freakin' delicious, though. Mmmm. Oh, and I LOVED this book when I was a kid. I thought Lewis was hot.

I thought the Zingy's outfit and the sweatskirt sounded dibble! I did not think much of the off the shoulder top though because it sounded like she made it in a total hurry and I always imagined it looking kind of ragged.
Lots and lots of navy blue eyeliner..augh just say no, Dawn! Plus the wild hair and the skirt she rolled up a few inches...oh my.

I've always pictured Dawn's "new" look as pretty ridiculous but then again, I've always been a "Kristy" when it comes to clothes. ;D I like Lewis too, Janey, and wish he would have been in more books. I think this one - which I was reluctant to read until I finally decided to last year - is now one of my top 10 favorites.

^^Yeah, I liked Lewis. I don't blame him for not liking "Cool Dawn" as much as the person he thought she was. This is one book, though, where the characters really came across as 16 or 17 rather than 13 to me. It makes me understand why some of you picture them that age all the time!

^ What did he do that was so bad? As soon as he met Dawn, he pretty much wrote her off because she wasn't the girl he "expected" - surely if he'd liked her that much through her letters, he'd have given her a bit more of a chance.

^ I don't know. Maybe I'm judgemental, too, but I would have done the same thing. He lliked the girl he had been writing to, which is not the girl he met. It wasn't like he was mean to her because she was too fat or didn't look like he imagined or something (I actually knew a guy who did this to a girl once. I felt so awful for her!). He didn't like the "new Dawn" who was extremely different from the girl he had been writing to. That's the way I see it, at least, but maybe I should reread again and see what I think. My perspective is always changing, it seems. ;D

I got the impression that he was sort of surprised to find her different, but he WAS giving her a chance. After all, he went out with her.

^ yeah but he was pretty moody towards her. I dunno, I guess I feel he should've been a bit more pleasant. Maybe Dawn was just nervous or self-concious and her new "persona" was her way of dealing with that and if he'd given her a chance to warm up, she'd have been the girl he thought he knew.
Then again, I'm probably expecting too much of a 13 yr old. And I guess my line of thinking is that if he rejected her based on her personality not being as he expected, maybe he WOULD have rejected her if she was overweight with acne or something.

^ I don't know. To me, personality is much different than looks and a lot of times, I tend to judge people on the way they dress in ways that reflect their personality (if this makes sense. I know it's judgemental but....)
