^ I can see saying it, but I've never seen anyone but Kristy write it.

I can't remember, but was this a Lerangis book? I've come across "Ho-Hum" in a couple of other books and I'm pretty sure they were his.

^ Actually, this book wasn't ghostwritten since there's no "The author gratefully acknowledges (name of person) for his/her help in preparing this manuscript."

I always liked the cover to this one. What do you do when you miss your ex-boyfriend? Go roller skating with your totally awesome friends!!

I always liked the cover to this one. What do you do when you miss your ex-boyfriend? Go roller skating with your totally awesome friends!! Total word. I always wished this scene was in the actual book. Imagine all the drama: Mallory has to borrow the triplets skates because her family is still kinda poor and is embarrassed because they're *gasp* boy skates! Jessi is reluctant to skate because she might break her leg and decides to sit it out and discovers that her amazing muscles and coordination make her a genius with video games. Claudia and Stacey look amazing and spend time flirting with the clerk renting out skates, only to realize his girlfriend also works there. Kristy gets super competitive and tries to show everyone else up. Mary Anne falls and is embarrassed, then goes to the bathroom and runs into Cokie, who is bragging about her dates with Logan. Mary Anne cries some more.

In one of the books right before this one it says Mary Anne and Logan are broken up but are still good friends. In the beginning of this one it sounds as if they have barely spoken since the break-up. Mary Anne was freaking out about Logan being in her group. I know. Poor Mary Anne was upset since she wasn't sure how she'd be with Logan cause they barely speak to each other. Plus I hated Cokie who made Logan miss their project, even he really did afterwards.

I always liked how Cokie got up there on stage and embarrassed herself by reading things she'd copied straight off the book jacket. Serves her right. I hate group projects anyway, and I especially hate it when one person slacks off and gets away with it, so it was good to see that NOT happen to her.

The book projects sounded like fun, so I'm glad they went well for Mary Anne. I also wanted to see the skate scene, I thought it would be something like the one in Mary Anne and the Brunettes

i think it's awfully convenient that the teachers RANDOMLY assigned MA to her favorite author and then somehow got that author to visit. but i won't overthink it.
this is one of those books that i don't remember reading when i was younger so i never grew up wanting to go roller skating with my friends (which was probably a good thing, considering i am a mallory-caliber athlete), but i thought it was sweet that MA admitted she wanted to be back with logan but she didn't put up with his slacking off. i loved how confident she was during their date at the end and how she didn't try to push anything. it's like she knew she had him already :]

^And that Logan was in her group. Just re-read and wanted to ask are there really at least 168 8th Graders at SMS? MA was in Group #42, each group having 4 people, a few with 5.
I admit to also wishing we had gotten to read about Cokie after the ceremony. As in if any teacher confronted her. Also, I wonder if MA, Pete, and Logan, included Cokie's name on their project? Usually, at least from my memories of Group Work (which I also loathed) the teacher would check in with groups to see who was doing what and how the project was going. But then if that had happened, Cokie on stage wouldn't have occurred.
This is one Mary Anne book that I really liked overall. Would have been interesting to see a MA/Pete hook-up if even briefly. Yes, I thought MA literally wore a long blue shirt over red tights. Maybe it's just me, but I still don't quite get how leggings are pants...IIRC, tights was the word used.
The only skating I remember is when Logan and MA went ice skating in MA vs Logan and Stacey (possibly in Christmas Chiller) tells Claudia that she'll try to arrange for the two of them to go skating in Rockerfeller Center.
Kormans, boring. 5 and 3 would have made better sense for "Toilet Monster" Fears. For and 2 even better, because both ages wouldn't have been toilet trained all that long.

Just re-read and wanted to ask are there really at least 168 8th Graders at SMS? MA was in Group #42, each group having 4 people, a few with 5. i am pretty sure both winter vacation and memory garden say there are 342 kids in the whole school. i'm not sure if that's the exact number, but it's something like that. i really doubt the school is half eighth graders. i reread again today, and i am wondering why MA doesn't stick up for pete later on when he runs for president. they got along really well in this book, and she admits that he was a great speaker during their presentation, so i guess i was hoping that would stick with her more. i understand pete was running against her best friend, but kristy for president made it seem like pete was a clueless idiot.

^ Didn't she defend Pete at least a little in #53? It's been awhile since I read that one, but I thought she did, even though she was mostly supporting Kristy.

^ honestly, i have no idea. i have to reread because it's been a while and i don't remember exactly what they said. but the last time i read i remember a lot of pete bashing, saying pete was only good compared to all the other candidates, etc.

I reread this one and I just am sort of blah with it. I get that MA misses Logan but does she even remember why they broke up? I'm sure if she thought about it she might realize getting back with him would not be the right thing to do, but I guess brooding at the window aching for him overshadows the problems! It's funny how in this book now he is back to his normal self. Maybe he is bipolar or something? Cokie just cracks me up. I imagine her to be very insecure deep down which as she got older would probably manifest in her being the town ho....just a thought!
