It did sound to me like Mrs. P loved garage sales...she made a point of telling them that she likes to be the first to arrive. But she did have quite an obvious distaste for a doll of Stacey's Jenny wanted to buy, calling it a "ratty old thing."

^ She only wanted "QUALITY" garage sale items. ;D

I can see her going to garage sales just to judge other people by the quality of their junk.

I do that. But not just to judge them, I'm looking to buy used children's books and occasionally things for my apartment (RIP). I just happen to judge people's junk while I'm there. And only if it's really hideous, like the garage that was JAM PACKED with EVIL CREEPY CERAMIC CLOWNS. I had nightmares for a month.

I have a cousin who loves clowns and collects them, everything from lamps to figurines. I'm just like "whyyyy."

It really is. I think she's put all that stuff into storage now, though.

^ Maybe she got it for them. ;D I liked the stuff about Claud saying Stacey was her best friend but thought Claudia was a bit focused on Claudia in this one. I might just be seeing it that way, though.

^ I can see that, to some extent. I guess it never really bothered me, though. After all, I've been sad and thought about how it would affect me when friends moved away. I think it's pretty natural. If it had been me, I might have tried to be a little more focused on the friend who was moving, at least while they were around.

When they originally published this book, were they already planning on having Stacey come back? I thought I remember reading somewhere that she only came back because people basically demanded it. But even at just 13 books in, I would think they'd have at least an inkling of who the fan favorite was. I remember hearing that too. I don't know if that was just a rumor though. Maybe Ann planned to bring Stacey back all along?

I think the clown thing is freaky...me and my friends had a sleepover one night and we were bored so we watched tv. on this wierd channel, we watched "Chuckie the Killer Clown"...and it scared me so much...i had nightmares for the past 2 years though...I'm warning you...all of you who knows what that is, never watch it in the middle of the night ;D

^ Anything with Chucky scares me (if it's the one from Bride of Chucky). ;D I know a kid who looks exactly like him, too. It's scary. ;D

I've been thinking about stuff I'd change in the BSC books if I could, and this plot is one of them. I wish the McGills hadn't moved back to NYC. Mr. and Mrs. McGill could have divorced while still in Stoneybrook, and then Stacey could have had some teenage Karen Brewer-like stories about joint custody. Cause really, not all divorces are as dramatic as they are in BSC world. They already had a deadbeat dad and a dad all the way across the country. They should have had one that lived a few blocks away. Then Mr. McGill could eventually move back to NYC and continue with his jerky ways.
I relate to Claudia here because practically every "best" friend I had growing up moved out of town. It sucked, and I totally didn't care that they were the ones moving, changing schools, changing homes, etc. All I thought about was that I was going to be stuck in the exact same place but without a friend.
