Wasn't that style semi popular at the time when the book was published? Remember all of those Laura Ashley prairie-style dresses that women always wore at the time?

Oh yeah, Mary Anne's Little House on The Prairie outfit. I laugh when I read that part. I was imagine Mary Anne as Laura Ingalls.

I really enjoyed this book as a kid. It was unrealistic, but not in a contrived way. The girls actually acted their age here, more so than some of the later books.
And fil-it mig-nun will always be a classic (though how the girls could afford it is another matter).

But the restaurant relies on the fact that the customers won't notice.

Honeybee That's the mistake Kristy makes, not the real pronunciation. It's fee-lay meen-yon, which I learned from this book (where else)! Amalia, but this was NY. But then, they went to Bloomingdale's, so... eh, BSC-verse. Money streeeeetches.

Not only were those flowery things in fashion in clothing, they were in décor, too. My mom and dad are FINALLY redoing their kitchen from 1991- it wasn't screamingly flowery but it was enough!

We re-decorated our 1995 kitchen a few years ago, I was upset at first cause it was such a funky, quirky dining area, but now I don't miss it at all, the simplicity is nice. We had stencil designs, sponge painting, the walls divided into two shades, nature related decorations.
Hey I just thought of something, Claudia and Stacey having an interior decorating business in the tri-state area when all grown up, it's perfect! It'll be like a modern day Alice Wakefield company!

That explains why I didn't get it. I've never read any Sweet Valley.

I love this book especially for the chapters on Central Park. I've always thought of writing down the sights the BSC go to throughout the series and use it as a NYC guide (you know that you're a super fan WHEN). I looked up the statues and places they visited in the park so it almost felt like I was there ... almost. Their food at the Hard Rock Cafe sounded so yummy. I like how, at the end, Ann tied everything up with the "have fun and be careful", "Have a good day!" and Judy calling Stacey Missy again.

I also love the park chapter. When I visited this summer, i only saw the Jackie Onassis Reservoir in the park, which is very pretty. Apartment buildings like the San Remo, where a lot of celebs live, are across from it. I specifically went by the Dakota, a lot of renovations were going on, but it was still awesome.
