It just occurred to me that their big NYC restaurant experience was Hard Rock Cafe, a chain restaurant! It's like that SNL skit Eli Manning did, where he said his favorite New York restaurant is Olive Garden.

This is a dumb question but was it a chain restaurant when the book was written?

According to Wikipedia, yes. The first one opened in 1971. Those shirts were everywhere, too. Stacey was SO COOL on the cover of New York, New York.
I would check out a popular chain restaurant on vacation if it wasn’t available in my area. Just out of curiosity and to have the experience.

I still think it's funny. Ann obviously loves Manhattan so I would have expected a famous city staple, similar to the treatment Tavern on the Green got in NYNY.

That's a fair point but maybe she was just going for more commercialism in the series? Who knows. I think I remember Hard Rock being a very popular thing way back when. And they definitely didn't have them in Stoneybrook, lol. I've never been to one, I have to travel almost two hours from where I live to find one.

I think I've been into one, but we didn't eat at it. It was too expensive. Maybe in the Mall of America? The shirts were popular when I was in jr. high. My friend came back from vacation (Cancun?) with one.

Can see how it’s like a chain and funny people were so excited about it. Olive Garden lol. Those original Hard Rock T-shirts were iconic and the BSC wearing them is fun. They were only 13 and as a 13 year old, going there with friends would be super exciting. I’ve been to the one in Berlin (I was 16 and bought a very early 2000s style shirt meh), Gatlinburg (I wore an iconic shirt from there for a few years until the shirt wore out lol) and the one at the Gold Coast, Australia, which I think recently closed down. I think I went to the one in New York from memory but maybe not memorable enough because I’m not 100 per cent sure if I went there. I learnt a lot about NYC from BSC and this book.
I liked the party that Stacey hosted. Anyone can feel a bit different in different cities around different people. At least Laine was ok in this book.
