I thought Mary Anne was just awful in this one. On Page 54 when she demands that the others automatically wear what Stacey tells them too. I thought "Good for Stacey" for making the beanie hat comment. The walking guidebook routine got old fast as well. MA's worst, just plain MEAN moments came at the party when she was making fun of Dawn. As some of you know, a Dawn fan I am not. To the best of my knowledge, even she (Dawn) never outright treated her supposed close friend the way MA did her. I enjoyed Kristy/Coby and wish we had gotten to read their convo and that they had had future contact. I agree on liking Stacey's pov in this and that the parents, including those of the BSC Members were crazy to allow the Museum trip to happen. On the wheeled suitcases, I wish they still made (or I could find) the older kind where the wheels were on the outside of the case. Even with some sort of material over them, the inside of the case still is not flat. (When wheels on inside). Poor kid dragging one of those to school. Although, if I do go back to college one day and not just online, I'd probably need a wheeled backpack thing to due to my TMJ (Jaw) issues. Central Park does sound like a fun place to visit. The Museum does, as well. Normally I'm not that big a museum fan. On a humurous note, in Kristy's postcard to Nannie, she spelled Nannie, NannY. Hints of Emily Michelle, AMM?

I love hearing about New York in the books, the BSC and Sex & The City have made me a little NYC obsessed! If I ever get to visit America, I want to see NY & Connecticut more than any other place. I don't know who annoys me the most in this book! At some points I could sympathize with Stacey, certain things the rest of the BSC said and did were surely cringe-worthy but she seriously was just as bad. She was a downright bi-atch to them! Why did she expect to meet her friends and go out for lunch without allowing them to be able to at least drop off their things? ('HUMILIATING' box car or not) And then to be so rude as to tell them "It's COMPLETELY out of the way, of course!" I felt sorry for the girls at Stacey's party, especially Kristy & Dawn. Mary Anne sounded like such a freak and then totally ragged Dawn out (within ear-shot of her!) to make herself sound better. If I was Dawn I never would have spoken to her again. And Claudia was so rude to Laine before she even gave her a chance to say a word to her.. But of course in BSC land everybody kisses and makes up just in time to go back home. I do enjoy the part about the 'typical New York Sunday morning' with the Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese bagels and reading the New York Times. Ps, I forgot to add I love the mention of two of my favourite (if not my two favourite bands ever) Talking Heads and The Doors in this book.

I wasn't too crazy about this book. I did enjoy reading The Museum part & The Broadway part.
I laughed when Stacey was embarrassed about Claudia's suitcase with wheel. I was thinking to myself. Stacey, now these days. Everyone has wheels on their suitcase.
I never been to NYC before. Maybe someday, when I do. I'll go to the Museum & Broadway.

If I'm remembering this one correctly, this is the one where they eat bagels with lox and cream cheese so they can all become "true New Yorkers." I'm pretty sure even Dawn partakes in the lox-eating. Just another example of the difference between the early books and the later books. If this had been later in the series, Dawn would probably shriek about how disgusting the mere thought of eating lox was.

^Dawn did eat some, even I believe saying "I'll even try some." I am not completely positive on this, will give Dawn "the benefit of the doubt" for now! Didn't she (or IRRC Mary Anne reflect on Dawn's wishes) tell us in one book that She (Dawn) insisted on barbecuing turkey dogs for the kids because "the kids would never know the difference?" Maybe she said "tofu" but I'm remembering "turkey."

^ I don't remember that. The only hot dog-related Dawn moment I can recall is from Camp Mohawk, when Dawn ate a hot dog when her group was lost in the woods rather than starve.

I liked how Laine didn't tolerate any of Claudia's jealously. I liked the trip to the Museum of Natural History.

This book always made me want to go to New York! I really loved the girls in this book even though they were annoying. I could only imagine being a 13 year old girl on my own going to NYC to see one of my best friends. I probably would have been a nervous crazy wreck and more along the lines of MA. I was so jealous that they were able to do that and I couldn't when I was 13! I guess I would have had to have a friend that lived there

^ This book STILL makes me want to go to New York! This one and SS#6, that is. It's been WAY too long since read any BSC.

I wonder, was Dawn afraid of crimes and pickpocketers on the street or *gasp* "gangs with minorities"

I wonder, was Dawn afraid of crimes and pickpocketers on the street or *gasp* "gangs with minorities" To be fair to Dawn, New York City was a lot more dangerous pre-Giuliani and Bloomberg.

NYC was amazing when I went a few years ago, it just felt like another urban city to me like I live in, but more crowded and lively, with great shopping
