I believe Dr. Reese was mentioned in a regular book but I'm blanking on the book title.

she was only mentioned by claudia in live from wsto and perfect boy, so my theory is that maybe claudia is the only one who knew about it, and not someone like kristy or dawn, who are supposed to be her best friends, which suggests she could have gone cause of abandonment issue starting with not having a mom, getting close to her stepsister/best friend who went back and maybe something about not automatically connecting with kristy like it was before dawn, cause I could see it sometimes
how come she was mentioned in the chain letter? I didn't buy it though I wanted it so badly, but I do know kristy was in the hospital for some reason, but dr. reese is supposed to be a therapist right

Kristy was in the hospital with appendicitis. Mary Anne's secret in Chain Letter is that she had some therapy sessions with Dr. Reese a while ago when she was really stressed out. She does appear in another regular BSC book, Mary Anne and the Memory Garden. MA goes to see her again when she's upset about Amelia's death.

However, in Perfect Boy, when Mary Anne talks about Dr. Reese it's in front of the other BSC members, so they did learn about Dr. Reese at some point after Chain Letter. But it's interesting that Claudia is still the only one to bring it up.

I have to say, I think they only skimmed over the depression topic with Mary Anne. I remember being a bit confused with it myself as a kid. I have to assume that Scholastic felt it too, as they tried to tackle it again in Stacey's Ex-Boyfriend.

^They sure did. I've said this before and still really think (if we can believe what MA told us in "MA vs. Logan) that her feelings of depression lasted for good while. IIRC, she eventually talked with her guidance counselor who helped her tell Richard who took her to Dr. Reese. All of that would have made for such a good (and probably endearing) book. It also might have made me like MA more because instead of her throwing cups or blame, we actually would have seen more of her on the inside.

I would have liked to see Mary Anne deal with her depression/stress/whatever. I was never really happy with the way Robert's was handled. I also like that MA confided in Claudia...it's nice when the two of them interact.

They say when there is a death or loss, it triggers past losses and abandonment too in a lot of people, so I'm sure she was triggered by not having a mother, and Dawn having left Stoneybrook for good sometime before this book, she was pretty angry when hearing the news from a third party, but didn't make the Dr. Reese connection at the time of reading Farewell Dawn.

This book also reminds me of the Golden Girls episode "Love, Rose" where Blanche answers a personals column that Rose places, pretending to be a mystery admirer.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed reading about Claudia's dates and how the guys didn't end up being her dream guy. I also liked reading the letters that people wrote for the column.

^ Yeah, it was a good lesson that not everyone has to find their perfect match in their early teems, especially considering the fact that most of us don't in real life!
