but those are classics, I had a Dorothy costume in the late 80's/early 90's, and movies like Mary Poppins way before I started reading BSC.
I think for each new year, it adapted to a blend of the past and the current year, cause there would be pop culture references to movies like Home Alone, Aladdin, and once even to Barney.

^I think Wizard of Oz costumes are always going to be popular. I just saw this yesterday. Neil Patrick Harris' tin man costume >>> Ben Affleck's tin man costume. Ben looks like he's in a grade school play.

Bwahahaha @ the grade school play comment! I wonder if he made it himself, a friend or relative made it for him, or if hired someone to do it. I liked the picture of Neil's family and how their costumers were so professional. And how the gay couple went as something from The Wizard of Oz -- I love the stereotypical-ness of it all; Ann would probably like that photo and costume design! Although I kind of like how Ben's family gives off the message that you don't have to spend tons of money on Hallowe'en costumes.

Oh man this book made me feel bad for Stacey's dad, and that makes me cringe!
One thing I found interesting is that when Stacey and dawn are talking about divorce, dawn says all things considered shed rather her parents still be happily married...but gasp that means never knowing ma or the bsc!!!! I did always feel that dawn could care less about these things, probably b/c she kept flip flopping from ca and all that.

^I'm glad that someone else felt badly for Ed. I normally am not a big fan of his either, especially later books, but I really thought he was genuinely trying to include Stacey in his celebration in this one.
Oh, no, it does, I never thought of that! I am still surprised after all her watchings of "The Parent Trap," Dawn never tried getting her parents back together. We know Stacey did but Dawn never even mentioned that other than here. As for Dawn and MA, short and not so sweet is I don't think either of them thought too much of the other. I do think Dawn did get the shorter end of the stick until she relocated permanately back to CA and wrote off MA and the BSC.

I don't necessarily feel bad for Ed, but I DO understand his disappointment at Stacey not being totally present for his big day. He just wanted to share it with his daughter, and there's no crime in that.

The vibe I got from Ed was that he thought he would look bad if Stacey wasn't there. I'm sure he really did want her there, but there was also the fact that everyone knew that she left town with her mother. He just had an attitude like "Look at me spending time with my daughter! She loves me so much! I'm such a good father!"

I needed some BSC cheer last night and this sub-plot is so very funny. I LOVE the kids travelling show at the end. I wish we could have seen it, too. Buddy, Suzi and their Mother's Helper play, I'm not big on rap but Adam, Jordan, and Byron as Vanessa said did do a good job and it was funny how Vanessa wanted them to have a group name. I still love how at the end Buddy decides not to give away the secret of the moon dust as he sees it is special to Suzi and thought it was so sweet how they both ordered the specialized book for Marnie (the one where they provided Marnie's name and age, and whoever was selling the book was supposed to complete a story about a girl named Marnie). Claire and Vanessa's chase over the bust developer? lOL. I also noticed this time around that Mr. and Mrs. Pike were probably watching the kids go from house to house and liked that they did that, kept an eye on things more discreetly. Definitely a great sub plot when you need an extra smile. I did not read the main plot this time around.

Didn't Vanessa stuff it down her shirt, though? Maybe she just didn't know how it worked.

Kristy telling about the "Original Artists" scam is one of my favorite moments but otherwise this book was kind of boring. Stacey's choice being to try to not choose, even though her mother said she could just go to the dinner, felt like a weird topic to try to make a book out of and it irked me that her dad was upset about them leaving "early" when they still got home/in bed at midnight.

Didn't Vanessa stuff it down her shirt, though? Maybe she just didn't know how it worked. I have to re-read but I always thought she stuffed it down her shirt because she was hiding it from Claire, who kept asking what it was. I felt bad for Ed in this book. He can be a jerk but he was so excited to have Stacey visit for the weekend and he was talking about getting tickets to a show. And even Maureen was telling Stacey to go to NYC and have fun. But Stacey spent the whole party checking in on her mom and then made her dad leave early so she could get up at the crack of dawn and go home.
