Does Claudia have blue highlights or is that just the light hitting her? The highlights would be really pretty on her.

Perhaps it's the lighting like you suggest, oldhickory. I read on Wikipedia about "blue black" hair, which is a person that was born with bluish-black hair. Their hair is black but it has a blue hue under the light.

There’s white on the right side of her head where the light wouldn’t be hitting, so...? They are oddly placed highlights if that’s what they are.

This is the last main series book AMM wrote. And it shows. For the most part, her books are much better quality.
So, I liked this one, but is it wrong for me to say that Stacey sort of brought this on herself? I understand her staying home from school for a day and setting up a "mom-sitter" for the first few days, but I guess otherwise I'm not understanding her dilemma. It's not even her parents making her choose this time (which is how I remember it happening). Pneumonia DOES suck and is more serious than a flu, but her mom was getting better every day. I get worrying about her, but I think Stacey was overreacting. And I think her compromise was fine (going to the dinner and just staying in New York overnight. Very reasonable), but why in the world did she need to take a 6:30 a.m. train and why didn't she consult her dad about it? Ed actually isn't that bad in this book tbh, and I actually kind of felt bad for him (normally he's one of my least favorite BSC parents. Yes, Patrick is at the very bottom. What a jackass) when Stacey told him he was married to his job. It's pretty much true, but ouch. Unnecessary.
If I'm a jerk, please tell me lol. Obviously I understand her worrying about her mom, but I thought it was a bit OTT.
A minor inconsistency: Stacey says that Kristy came up with the idea for associate members, but it was actually Mary Anne's idea.
I loved the mall chapter. I really like examples of them doing things that 13 year old girls would actually do. Malling, sleepovers, pizza parties. It just makes me so nostalgic. Also, I don't think Stacey's dinner outfit sounds like it LOOKS bad, it's just way too casual. Almost sounds like exercise clothes. I have no idea why they act like Kristy is the most casual dresser ever, because leggings are usually seen as more casual than jeans. I love leggings (so comfortable), but I wouldn't wear them to a formal event.
Why would Stacey go over to the Pikes' to work on homework? That makes no sense.
Hilarious quote: "Then came the salad course. After dinner? Oh, well. I decided I had been away from New York too long. I was losing my grip on sophistication." These girls and their obsession with sophistication omfg lol.
The mail order plot was alright. Not my favorite, not my least favorite. For some reason I liked the moondust bit.
I really like this cover. It's so nostalgic to me for some reason.
EDIT: forgot to mention. It's so bizarre that Stacey was going to have someone come in at MIDNIGHT to 8 a.m. to watch her mother. Wtf? Why not just have someone stay overnight? Midnight is an odd starting time. It seems like most Stoneybrookites have a fairly standard schedule and would thus be asleep by midnight. So weird. She should've had someone show up at, like, 9 and leave after breakfast. Her way was way over complicated. Also ended up being a moot point because Ed hired a nurse anyway, which he really should've brought up.

Nurses tend to work 12 hour shifts. Real nurses, not your neighbor, lol. If someone wanted me to help them at midnight I would be like "...no." Here are fancy looking legging outfits from Banana Republic. Hopefully Stacey just meant stretchy pants, and not "I'm going to hit the elliptical after dinner" pants.

That's not an odd time to start a nursing shift (at least I don't think so), but for a neighbor to come over and help (in a non-emergency)... it's really weird. A 12 how hour "shift" from like 9-9 oddly makes more sense in this case, though. Yeah I guess I was just weirded out that it was paired with a bodysuit. I can see leggings being appropriate if paired with a dress. They were also just described as "new black leggings," not fancy or anything like that. It really did sound almost like a gym outfit! Not a bad one, though.

Haha, I imagine the leggings went over the bodysuit, but the picture of leggings under the bodysuit is too funny. That outfit is almost exactly what Jessi wears when rushing from ballet to club meetings.

Wait, like an 80s aerobics outfit? Lol. Her dad would have words about that.

Conveys well her being written as mature, as some have said of all of the sitters mini-adults, and feeling frustrated and distressed by the situation.

Stacey's outfit sounded cute but way too casual for what sounded like a fancy dinner party for her dad. I agree it sounded like something to wear to the gym, that's what I thought when I heard bodysuit and leggings!
I did feel bad for Stacey's dad too. He doesn't get to see her much and he was all excited to have her visiting and Stacey's mom even told her to go to NYC and have a fun weekend. I agree that Stacey kind of brought this on herself

I think her outfit worked - sleek and solid, with a long jacket over it to dress it up. It was the ultimate outfit to me as a kid. I was like, where do I find a silk hot pink jacket?
The scented pens that one of them buys at the mall always intrigued me.
This book really doesn’t make much sense once you realize Ed hired someone to take care of Maureen all along. I guess Ann put Stacey through it to emphasize her “divorced kid” saga.

I guess Ann put Stacey through it to emphasize her “divorced kid” saga. I had scented pens! Those scents sadly never lasted long though. Were those bought at Zingy's? That store always sounded so fun XD I haven't read in awhile but did Stacey know Ed hired someone to watch Maureen while she was leaving the dinner every so often to call and check on her? She just went through the "divorced kid" thing 15 books earlier, it seems like her parents never learned. Or in this case, Stacey was stressing herself out despite knowing her mom was being taken care of.

I think she knew the nurse was coming at some point but asked the others to fill in so her mother was never alone. It’s been so long since I read it, though, I could be wrong.

When she returned, the nurse and several neighbors were confused. I'm not sure if Ed didn't tell Stacey about the nurse or if Stacey forgot.
