We didn't have a naptime in our kindergarten, but it was still a half day kindergarten (1987-88 school year for me.)

These days even a lot of elementary schools have no recess. Ick! Children need to have some unstructured, running around time! I totally agree. Kids need a chance to get rid of their excess energy and blow off some steam.

Did you have enough room to do something indoors, like Duck, Duck Goose, etc.?

I hated nap time, too. I had a full day of kindergarten (1988-1989 for me), and I still didn't get tired. Now....I would love to have naptime during work, but oh well.
I love how in KGI, Kristy is at least a little feminine. She wears a jumper to school, and she tells MA that if she bites her nails, she won't be able to wear nail polish. Now....since when has Kristy cared about her nails? And does anyone remember how excited Kristy gets when she finds out she's a bridesmaid? Later on, for Patrick's wedding, she hated the idea of dressing up. Go figure.

I had recess, right up to grade 12. Of course, when we were in elementary school, we used to go outside and play on the playground. But in high school, it was just a time, about 20 mins long or so, where you could go to the cafeteria and get something to eat, or just chat with friends. I didn't know some schools didn't have recess! It always confused me though, how it was dinner and then recess right after in the books. In my school we would have two classes, recess, another two classes, dinner, and then one last class (well it used to be one class between recess and dinner and then two after dinner, but they changed it my last year or so of high school, and I liked that better).

OUr high school lunch periods were 23 minutes. And believe it or not a *lot* of kids crammed a choir rehearsal into lunch. Yours truly included.

^I have taught head start and the kids were horrible if their recess got rained out. what!? I loved indoor recess! we got to use the computers and play Oregon Trail! ;D Wow, I never heard of having recess or breaks in highschool. My school only had 5 minute passing periods between classes, so we would have to run across the halls to get to the rooms on time. We also had really short lunch periods.

Normally, at least 10 of those were spent waiting in the lunch line, which always sold out of anything worth eating by the time I got there (i had the last lunch period, all three years I went to that school).

I went to preschool for about 2 days and that was the thing I hated more than anything. Of course, I think lots of people could go for "on the job" naptime now. Makes me think of when George on Seinfeld had the "nap area" under his desk. ;D

I hated naptime in preschool. I didn't want to stop playing to take one.

^ Me neither. ;D I have never been one for "wasting time". ;D I'm one of those odd people who even comes back from vacation needing a rest because I haven't sat down. My whole family is like that - don't like sitting still for a minute if we don't have to.
