I really like this one. I must say that I really enjoy Shea. Did anyone find it odd of the particular kids that they wrote about giving the bsc the surprise? I mean kids who maybe show up very little - I felt surprised it wasn't the pikes, Jenny p, Jamie an kristys brothers and sisters.

^The kids were a very random group. Thinking about it did we ever read about the Rodowksys, Braddocks, and Arnolds hanging out together before? I know they all were members of "All The Children," but I am not remembering any other mentions. Lol, this could have made for a cuter "Mystery at Claudia's House."

^ i can't see the arnolds fitting into that group at all. the rodowskys and braddocks were all rowdy and loud and energetic, and the twins both love being the center of attention and had enough trouble competing with each other.

^Maybe the Arnolds were thrown in because we hadn't heard from them in awhile? Otherwise, they really were an odd addition especially since neither of their parents helped with the car-pooling or were present at the Rosebud.

I'm reading this book now, and the last time I read it in English was when it was published in 1993. I have read it since then, but only in a French translation. So I remember the general storyline but I guess it'll feel slightly different.

I thought Shea and Claud's relationship was really rather sweet. Stacey's sudden briskness and strictness seemed sort of random, but the subplot was actually fairly believable.

I reread this last night and cheered for both Shea and Claudia--loved how they helped and befriended one another. I wish more of their friendship had been the main or sub-plot instead of "Stacey, the alien tutor." ITA with everyone else who said it probably would have worked better had someone Claudia wasn't as a close to tutored her, at least after the first time when both Claud and Stacey probably felt awkward. It's too bad SMS didn't have a peer tutoring program like the one Stacey said she would have joined (for math) had she stayed in NY. I also think a big part of the problem was that Stacey was correcting personal things Claudia had written and to me that is just wrong. I understand the idea was a great one because if the subject was more personal it would be more meaningful and easier for Claud to also want to even try writing about but maybe even a Nancy Drew story, what Claud thought of it would have been better. One very funny Claud remark that always makes me smile is at the bottom of page 11 and top of page 12. Claudia is handing around snacks at a BSC meeting. A bag of trail- mix was also circling the room...as well as a box of chocolate twigs. Those are little sticks of chocolate shaped like twigs, not real twigs dipped in chocolate!: I'm happy about that and I love how Claud explained.

I still pronounce Shea. ("Shay") The other way, "She-ah" Just sounds weird for some reason. I didn't like Stacey's tutoring ways. Each people are different, when study. Some people like to listen to music, other people like quietness, nothing distract them. Maybe Stacey, study with no sound on, she thought, it'll work for Claudia. Not everyone can study the same. Everyone is different. I like to listen to music. Helps me, to calm my nerves, when I'm doing a project at work. If, Stacey was my tutor, I'll fire her, find someone who can tutor me or tutor myself. Shea, explain it better than Stacey did, for the English test. Sometimes, when I learning something new. I need verbal directions & visual directions. Unless, I get the first time. But, if I don't understand verbal directions. I'll need someone show me, how to do it.

I always pronounced "Shea" as "Shay." Maybe because I knew that Shea Stadium is Shay? I wonder if that's where the Rodowskys got the name from--they certainly have a taste in names that goes all over the place--Shea, John, and Archibald!

Jackie's name was John?

I'm assuming so--Jack -> Jackie. Maybe it was just Jack, but it bugs me when someone's full name is the diminutive, so I prefer to think he was John. (Another Stoneybrook John!)

^I am almost positive Dawn's Dad Jack was referred to at least once as John or maybe I am remembering suggesting that years ago when we were discussing all the Johns. I do remember a Bobbsey Twins book with a character nicknamed Jack. His given first name was John. Jackie R to me is just Jackie, hard to think of him by any other name. ITA that the Rodowsky parents chose a variety of names for their three sons.

^ I think it was in Here Come the Bridesmaids where Jack was referred to as John.
ETA: I just skimmed the book and yeah, Jack is referred to as John. It was when Dawn received a round trip plane ticket, which she could use anytime.

Maybe Jackie was a Jackson. I was going to say that's too modern, but you have Jackson Pollock and Jackson Browne, so it's possible!
