What do you think the girls would be like, say, at 18 or 19?

Personality wise? I think Kristy's daddy issues will rear their ugly head again: I think Patrick might be guilted into showing more intrest in his kids lives.
Mary Anne might outgrow her shyness. I think her relationship with Sharon might get stronger. Dawn will continue bouncing between coasts, and her relationship with Sunny would deteriorate.
Claudia might reach some sort of peace with her parents and Janine. But I don't think she'd stay friends with Stacey. I see Stacey as going back to New York for college and staying there longterm.
Abby might go to Israel to find herself. Shannon will go to France and decide she loves it too much.
I don't see Jessi as a succesful ballerina. I'd imagine she'd go into politics as a major.
I see Mallory as someone who always sees herself as an 11 year old with braces, glasses, and bad clothing. Low self esteem issues throughout her college issues.

^ Definitely agree about Abby. i always imagined her surfing the internet and ending up on the Yad Vashem memorial page, and deciding to go there. I think she and Kristy would have stayed friends. But I think Mal would be so pretty, once she grew up and stopped whining already!

I have to say I agree about Mallory, I think despite how pretty she may be one day, she will always have self esteem issues.
As far as Kristy goes, I think she will have to face her daddy issues as well. I wonder if her issues with her dad will influence any of her future relationships.

Hm, I don't know ... I always imagined Mal coming out of that stage after a while ... maybe only when she left high school though. Riverbend just seemed so perfect for Mal, I could see her getting past her issues in that book, with help from her new friends.
I wonder if Kristy will ever really trust someone, too. Like, will she spend most of her time wondering if the father of her children is going to leave any minute? That would be quite a challenge for him, I think ... to get her to trust him.

^Maybe she would decide not to have children at all...she could become a teacher and her students could be her "kids." Or she could treat her pets like children

Kristy seemed very well adjusted to me. I always thought Abby and Stacey were the ones with daddy issues.

^ That's a good point, she did manage pretty well considering, I guess... Stacey always struck me as less adjusted than the other girls, because she flipped back and forth between crowds and personalities (although I do like her, I think underneath she's just confused but sweet, like normal thirteen year olds...!). I see Stacey being a popular person but not in with the cheerleaders, just someone well-liked. Although, were Stacey and Claudia ever popular... or did it just seem that way to the BSC?
I also always thought that through high school, the girls would set aside a time and day to get together for coffee, no matter what. Either that, or all-out war between Stacey and Claud...

Kristy did seem well adjusted, but sometimes with even well adjusted people stuff like that may come back to haunt them later on in life.
As far as Abby, I always saw her humor as kind of a defense mechanism for the pain she feels about her dad. I know she was always supposedly funny, even before her dad died, but I wonder if she still uses some of it to mask the pain. That may be something she will have to deal with later in life.

^ I agree about Abby. I think she and Anna both have stuff to work through, they just hide behind different things. They had so much freedom and independence, too, even considering that this is BSC-world not the real world. I wonder what they do with that independence as they get older... there are some good and not-so-good ways that could turn out. I always imagine that Abby, Kristy, Shannon and maybe Anna become really good friends by the end of high school.

It seems like out of the bubble of Riverbend Mallory can't really function though, but I base the assumption on the few post Riverbend glimpses we see of her.

^ That's a good point. I just read Stacey's Problem for the first time and Mallory seemed kind of maladjusted (no pun intended). Maybe she'll always have the eleven year old Mal hidden somewhere inside...

I'm going to give Mallory the benefit of the doubt, maybe she will become gorgeous and date any guy she wants, like every weekend!
I think Mary Anne will deal with anxiety and shyness
Claudia is going to feel so lost like her art accomplishments aren't good enough cause she's unhappy inside, she'll try to live in new york though as a struggling artist
I think Stacey will be well rounded

I can see Stacey doing very well in High school and going off possibly back to NY to do very well in college and being a career driven person like her father.
Claud I can see having a 'rebellious' stage where she will party a lot and maybe even drop out of High school. She & Stacey will probably drift apart because of the different directions their lives are going in.
Mallory will still have that dorky 11 year old inside and probably low self image / esteem but she will always look great to try and pretend it isn't the case.

I couldn't see Claudia dropping out, mostly because I don't think the Kishis would let her.
