I've always wondered why Lisa and Watson divorced in the first place. I suspected cheating, and I always thought Lisa cheated with Seth. My suspicions are confirmed in Karen's Babysitter when Lisa says that she can be the secretary and that she knows Seths job. and she smiles at him about it. Right there was when I thought my theory was correct. Also, Karen notes that in any time the big house family is with the little house family, the adults look uncomfortable.
Any other thoughts on this?

i never gave it much thought. i always assumed it was exactly as karen put it -- even though watson and lisa both loved the kids, they just weren't in love anymore. if watson was mad enough with lisa to divorce her, he probably wouldn't turn around and start dating elizabeth, since a lot of people here assume she cheated too :] besides, watson and lisa didn't seem to harbor any hard feelings toward each other. he ran to her side when she broke her ankle, and they work with each other when it comes to the kids.

I assumed Lisa learning about Seth's job came well after the divorce; was she even working while she was married to Watson? I thought she was a stay at home mom.
I also don't think the adults being uncomfortable in the presence of new spouses is necessarily indicative of affairs.

I was thinking that there is a significant age difference between Watson and Lisa, even more than between Watson and Elizabeth, and Lisa just didn't evolve into the type of wife that Watson wanted. Elizabeth was a career woman who worked her way to the top. Lisa didn't have a job until the end of the series (so, she was unemployed for at least 7 years), and it was making jewelry at the rec center. (Jewelry that Karen sometimes helped with, so I assumed it was less high-end stuff and more Claudia Kishi-ish.) I would never knock a stay-at-home mom, but maybe that just wasn't what Watson was looking for.

Always thought was because they couldn't get along, you know, not being able to be on the same page about stuff and thus the marriage fell apart after awhile.

Yeah, I don't think Lisa or Seth cheated, I think they just couldn't get along, and their marriage just failed because of too many arguments. However, I do think Ed (Stacey's dad) cheated on her mom and I do think Jack (Dawn's dad) cheated on her mom, too. Ed and Jack just seem to be cheaters.

I would certainly take a mild-mannered gardener who goes antiquing over a guy who stays out all night with his friends (jack). Yeah, Watson is cool.

I would certainly take a mild-mannered gardener who goes antiquing over a guy who stays out all night with his friends (jack). Yeah, Watson is cool. I'd take a Watson any day! I did have a "Jack" who did cheat and stayed out all night with his "friends". Yeah, never again. I never gave Lisa cheating on Watson a second glance, although I may read the series in an all new light! Jack cheating on Sharon sure would make me feel nicer about why she relocated the kids so far away from their dad - I have desired to do this with Markam DAILY since! It was always something I did not like about Sharon - however, I can get behind her with that thought. I don't think Stacey's dad cheated on her mom though - I think he got married to his work and stress over Stacey's disorder got them riled up. That, or Ann wanted to have one of the babysitters currently going through a divorce to help youngsters identify better and at the time Stacey's parents made the most sense.

Maureen and Ed's divorce makes sense to me. They had a lot of high stress life changes in a short amount of time. The divorce rate for people with special needs kids is supposed to be higher, too.

Dawn had basically hinted that her dad was Mr. Organized and he couldn't handle her mom being a scatterbrained slob after awhile.

^ Yeah, true, but Sharon and Richard's marriage seemed to work out despite that Richard is even more organized than Jack.

But it seems like Richard can tolerate Sharon's imperfections. If Jack didn't love Sharon anymore, any excuse would work.

^ True. Richard does seem more patient and kind than Jack, so being married to a slob didn't bother him as much as Jack, I guess.

In Karen's Book where she writes her autobiography she talks about Lisa meeting Seth after the divorce so I don't think she cheated with him. There did seem to be an age difference so maybe they drifted apart
