Yeah, this book was definitely weird re: Georgio and what the Coopers planned to do. Like, what was the point of the Georgio plot? They didn't really make it into a teachable moment, like it should be in a series for kids, IMO.

^ITA Greer. Perhaps the intent was to add to the ghost story about Lydia and George that Mr. Cooper told by having the similar names? As for Georgio and Claudia's romance, I can completely understand Claud being infatuated with Georgio and his attention. What I still don't get is why none of the adults who knew both of their ages said anything? I mean just taking Claudia aside not in front of Georgio or anything. I think the "evil list" could have been toned down and still had plenty of super special material. As I said yesterday, I would have enjoyed more of a live version of the BSC kids on Wheels and also thought Kristy and Dawn had a very clever idea in helping Jill start her own BSC. I did wonder though since Jill was only 10 how that would work but was glad she got to be a Mother's Helper.

Georgio was probably so shocked when he read Claudia's letter.
I found the last chapter surprising. Do you think Mary Anne really saw the Coopers by the Ferris Wheel?

^Good to see a post from you, Maddie I hope you have been well. As for your question, I think and rightfully so, MA was probably still very spooked and thought she saw people who looked enough like the Coopers for her to do a double take. I have a feeling that was thrown in to leave us and the BSC wondering. I sure hope it wasn't really the Coopers but given how scary at times this book was, it could have been. I think the Police said the Coopers were in Scotland. What was odd to me anyway is that if the Police knew they were in Scotland, it sounded like that's all they did (verify that) and nothing else. I understand that like Mr. Menders said unless the Coopers caused more trouble there wasn't a whole lot of charges or anything to be pressed now. I am not one for filing charges just because either. It just seemed almost too easy for the Coopers to accept they were found out and leave, unless they had other monetary wealth stashed elsewhere. Yipes, not a pleasant topic to think about. So...on a very much lighter and funny note, something I meant to edit in yesterday to my post, I thought it was so very funny when Andrew described Kristy as acting "silly billy" about trailing tourists with accents. To my knowledge the full, "silly billy goo goo," is only ever used by Claire except when Marc Kubacki repeats it once. I know I said this was my favorite SM but thinking about it now, maybe I will stick with the Mal parts of Christmas Chiller. Still though like sound of non haunted Reese.

That's cute Andrew adopted part of Claire's phrase. I thought the part where the sitters were trailing the tourists was so funny. If given the opportunity I can see Claire someday teaching Andrew how to say the full phrase. Given the lengths the Coopers already went to try and get the house I thought the possible Cooper sighting was spooky. I agree Zoar, it was likely put in to keep the sitters-- and readers on their toes.

I LOVED this one as a kid - I was so amazed when it first came out. I think it's still one of my favourites, and that may have to do with the whole old, rambling New England mansion, the likes of which we don't have here!
I'll write more later, but some thoughts - Jessi and Mal did a pretty okay job running the BSC for two eleven year olds. Kind of unfair for Mrs P to say she was very disappointed because there was no one available to sit. Yeah, I get that they're used to the BSC always being around, but it's Summer and they're kids, c'mon!
Also, the whole ten year old vs eleven year old thing - hard to believe Jill is a year or so younger then Mal and Jessi amd so obsessed with Dawn, when M & J are running the club.
And Georgio really couldn't tell that Claudia, or at leats Kristy and MA were 13?!

^I like how you put that Kylie. I don't remember the exact words but didn't Mrs. Pike remind Mal and Jessi that she (Mrs. P) was one of the BSC's oldest customers? Like that reminder should have M and J going all out to find (or be) the sitter(s). I love that Janine did take one job at the end and wish we had gotten to read about it. I still want to read about Sam baby-sitting for Karen and Andrew. (The Summer Before, mentioned also in KGI). Now that I think about it, given the Baby-sitters' Agency, it could have been an easy and much more trust-worthy solution for the girls to have asked their older siblings to sometimes be on call or more distant Associate Members. I like to think being asked would have meant a lot to Janine, because it might have shown Claudia reaching out to her. And I do think Charlie and at heart, Sam, too are great big brothers. The Jill/Dawn parts did get old for me quickly. I can understand if Jill saw Dawn as a very cool, teenager who she (J) wanted to emulate. I also think Mal said in "Hello, Mallory," at one point that if she had the money, she (M) would copy Dawn's entire outfit, possibly that was when Dawn wore the straw hat, not sure. Anyway, to me Jill's obsession came across as a bit too much and for too long. As I said up thread, I would have loved reading more about Kristy and Dawn helping Jill start her own baby-sitting club. I never did think about Georgio being clueless as to the other girls ages, but he either was or truly only had eyes for Claudia. I look forward to more of your thoughts and it is good to see you posting.

I read a few of the mysteries but haven't ready any of the super mysteries. I downloaded this one last night and can't wait to read it. Are they longer than the regular mysteries?

^ Yes, the super mysteries are longer. And like super specials, they have alternate chapters for each sitter.

I just reread this one and what irritated me most about this, why didn't the baby-sitters leave a message on Claudia's answering machine, explaining that some of them will be away and there will be limited baby-sitters? This was a silly and pointless plot device! It was SO STUPID to leave two 11 year olds in charge and the BSC should have been better organized. Their clients would understand, after all, they go on vacation too.

I really dislike it when Kristy goes on her I am President so what I say goes kick. Like she did in the beginning of the book. Just because your President doesn't mean you get to act bossy and think you can do what you want. And her attitude stinks in this one.

Just because your President doesn't mean you get to act bossy and think you can do what you want. And her attitude stinks in this one. I agree! At least she acknowledged her behavior, but still. She guilty everyone into filling up their schedules, then pretty much jumped at the idea of taking a vacation herself immediately. As I was reading this, I was wondering if it was light foreshadowing for Kristy's Worst Idea. Maybe? Am I giving the ghosties too much credit? XD I didn't read all the books in the 90s, so I'm curious to see if there was more buildup to 100. I don't remember the Super Mysteries much (I'm not a big fan of the mysteries in general, which is bizarre, because I like the "spooky" regular series books like Ghost at Dawn's House, Mary Anne's Bad Luck Mystery, and Mallory and the Mystery Diary), but this one was actually pretty good. It was better written than I remember aside from the oddness. I don't know why all 4 of them had to go to Reese when the club was struggling. Kristy probably should've stayed behind (sorry, she IRKS me in this book). I really liked the Claudia and Dawn interactions and Jill's crush on Dawn. Mallory's bread incident is one of the funniest moments in all of BSC. I have no idea how I don't remember it. She is SO overdramatic. “Mrs. Arnold is running the auction for the ambulance squad. If people die because there’s no ambulance, it’ll be your fault.” WHAT THE HELL? I couldn't stop laughing when I was reading that. How embarrassing for Logan too (his boss seems like a jerk too. Leaving the phone off the hook when it's busy so his employees don't get calls? That seems like a terrible idea. What if there's an emergency?) Georgio was creepy and yes, Claudia should have told him her age. Maybe she didn't think it would be a big deal because she figured she'd never see him again like her other vacation boyfriends (does she have more or does Stacey have more?)

I'm scratching my head as to why they couldn't leave a message on Claud's answering machine that there would be a limited number of sitters available because half of them were away? It would solve the problems Mal and Jessi had. I would have thought their clients would understand.

Just finished this one and let me get this right. Georgio was in college and lusting after Claud who is a kid. That's just disgusting and wrong. In Australia we would call him a pedophile or worse. If a 17/18 year old adult (in Australia you're legally an adult at 18. Unlike America which is 21.) is after a minor he'd be arrested.
