I liked this one, because I like the idea of exploring a giant, empty house with a mystery. I liked seeing Charlie, and laughing at Kristy and Bart being all awkward. But I didn't like the actual mystery explanation. They should have come up with something better. Like she ran away to start her own life, and whats his name faked his death and ran away to be with her. But her death was never proven, so the house sits empty until she can reclaim it. It's actually all dusty, but a witch put a spell on it, so that whomever entered would see a cozy home. Also, the kids are trapped there forever and ever.

I love this one, too, for the same reason of being stuck in a giant empty house. It gives me a nice cozy feeling and a familiar one since it's one of the first mysteries and first BSC books I read. I didn't care a ton for the supposed mystery, either, but overlook it for the rest of the book. ;D

Not sure if I was a bit feverish since I read it when I had the flu ;D or maybe it was just the mood I was in but this one was a bit creepy for me the last time. Even Will kind of scared me at first. I think he’s such a sweet guy, though, and one of my favorite scenes is when they’re playing ball at the end and he catches the ball. Thinking about it, what Dorothy did to him was pretty cruel. Did they ever meet after the girls found her, I wonder. I wish it would have said. This is one of my favorite Kristy books and mysteries and one of the first that I had so has great nostalgic feelings. I think it’s one of the ones that made me like Kristy and the Thomas/Brewers.

I really liked this book too ;D. I have been “saving” this one to reread when I need something to help my mood and a few days ago, I had to break down and read it. Glad I did as I loved it just as much as ever. This is probably my favorite mystery, partly because it’s one of the first ones I ever read. I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of staying in a haunted house and this book gives me such a “cozy” feeling. I really like Charlie in it. This was the book that really got me liking the Thomas-Brewer family, especially Karen. I think (sorry, Karen-haters that she is really cute in this one how she helps “solve” the mystery and how she is so interested in Dorothy. I know the book is a bit unrealistic but it still has a nice ending, just what I needed on a bad day I definitely agree. Only part I didn't like was Dorothy saying she might give Will a visit after talking with the BSC. "It might give old Will a turn" - WTF? Yeah, probably. Because he's not aware that you were, you know, alive all this time. I agree Just read this one for the first time. I enjoyed it, but agree about Dorothy and deciding to see Will, after all those years. PLUS, her dad dies of a broken heart after she leaves, and it doesn't bother her?! Yes,I agree

I just read this one for the first time, and I really liked it. But okay, Dorothy? Your father died of a broken heart because of you. Your fiancee pined for you his whole life. And you say 'Hee, yes, maybe I WILL visit Will!' Um, can we hear a giant WTF!!!Overall, I did like this book because the idea of staying in a creepy old mansion and having a mystery to solve is interesting, and I would LOVE to do it (So long as I wasn't alone!) I thought that the other babysitters chapters were a little annoying in taking away from the action, but it was nice to see them so worried about Kristy (I'm sure you all know by now how corny I am, and how much I love seeing instances of caring between the members!) Would have liked to hear more creaks and groans in the old mansion (When Kristy, Karen and Patty are in Dorothy's room, Kristy hears a sound like 'a woman crying'. I thought this would be referenced more, but it wasn't). I figured, of course, that it would be proven to not be a ghost, but I thought there would be more noises heard, or at least an explanation given for the woman crying. I guess it was just Kristy's imagination, or the wind, as she said when she heard it. Anyway! Overall, this book was pretty good - one of the better mysteries I've read, I found

Kristy and the Haunted Mansion was one of the books that got me hooked to the bsc mysteries as well. The mansion on the cover of the book screams haunted. I would never stay in an abandoned "haunted" mansion overnight.

Me too. I love the descriptions of the house, and the parts when they go exploring.

Usually I like house descriptions and stuff, but I just can't stand this book.

Was it because of the Krashers stuff? I didn't care about that stuff, but I thought it was so exciting that they got stranded in a rain storm at a big creepy house.

Eh, I don't know. I guess the Krashers stuff didn't bother me too much. I think the IDEA of sleeping over at a big empty house with nothing to do and nothing to eat except apples was so terribly boring to me that I couldn't stand reading the book.

The book's okay to me, but I also wouldn't like the idea of sleeping in a haunted house. Yeah, I agree, it's boring.
