Just read this one for the first time. I was a little shocked when Dawn suspected Kristy! She may be competitive, but her friends should know she'd never do something like that. I also liked how they mentioned Mary Anne and Kristy going to the mall together, and the mental image of the Queen or Princess Di ringing doorbells in Stonybrook was priceless

It was funny when the Pikes were afraid something was going to happen to Frodo and one of them (Nicky?) wanted to hide him in the oven.

I was surprised at how many past books this one referenced! They don't usually mention past events, but it seemed like every couple of chapters an older book was brought up. Shoot, I just read this one yesterday and now I'm forgetting them all! I know it mentioned Little Miss Stoneybrook...and Dawn. I'll take another look. I love it when the books do this, like they have actual pasts!

^ Yeah, I reread it recently too. I know they also mentioned the one where Jessi practically did Jackie Rodowsky's volcano project for him (I think it was Jessi?) but I can't remember which book it was.

^ Did Ellen Miles write this one? She always seems to reference past books. She even manages to get stuff right sometimes.

This book kind of ruined the plots of a few other books. I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but is it me or does anyone else think it is really lame (Though not necessarily unrealistic), how Dawn and the others cared so much about this sitter of the month contest, that little kids just put together themselves, that they theoretically could have risked their lives not telling about Mr. X? What if he was a maniac. They might have been murdered, because they wanted to win a contest that has no significant value in the long run.

I did think it was kind of lame. I never liked it when they got all super-competitive amongst each other.
And of course, they all ended up winning the contest. A seven-way tie? Yeah, right. If this was real, you know that wouldn't have happened. There would be a few kids who just plain didn't like one of the babysitters and wouldn't want to vote for her.

^A six-way tie would have been some fabulous drama Maybe the kids lied and said it was a seven-way tie, like all those contests for them that the sitters set up to have no real winner.

My friend's ex boyfriend called himself Mr. X on msn, so I always cracked up and thought of this book.
I remember reading it when I first bought it but I never picked it up again much so I don't remember much about it.

YES! I thought the same thing as a few of you about this book ruining other books. It's almost as if, ever time, they treat the book as if it's the first BSC book someone has ever read. And there was a lot of useless explanation about older books. I skipped those parts because it would read some of the "partial" fun out of re-reading some of those books later!
Also, I thought that it was interesting how Dawn accusing Kristy of being Mr X fit in with the Dawn-doesn't-like-Kristy theory.

This book was a bit creepy with the notes, the dead flowers and that no one talking on the phone when Dawn or anyone else answered it. Hopefully, the therapy will help Mel.

Nothingtolose, I know this almost 3 years late and you probably long since have found the answer. However, the Jessi doing Jackie's volcano project was in Jessi's Baby-sitter. I am re-reading right now and right off the bat Dawn is irritating. She tells us how she "used to lecture Claudia about junk food but stopped because C will never give up her Twinkies." I don't even like Twinkies but would eat one right there to shut Dawn up.

^I just reread Jessie's Baby-Sitter today. It also referenced Little Miss Stoneybrook.

What a rotten book--95% seemed to all be about Dawn. I can't believe she flat out says on page 57 that the "Sitter of the month always had to be in control and had jobs that went smoothly." At least twice, Jenny and the Rodowsky boys (Shea actually wanted to call the police after seeing a note and a few phone calls. Starts on page 58) young kids are possibly in danger. There were other instances the Pikes and Charlotte, too with other sitters. I don't think if you have proof someone is nearby and causing trouble, possibly danger, that a "red ribbon" type approach is the way to go. Although in this case, they kept it a secret from one another, too. The only good part of this for me was David Michael outshining Karen in "Let's All Come In." I know Dawn only did that to get his "vote," which stunk but it was nice anyway to have more of a DM scene.
