Agreed, Anzuhana!!! A name is something a child has to live with through their school years. I think it's tantamount to child abuse to give a child a name that will make them the target of ridicule by peers. I remember reading singer Dido's Wikipedia page. Her real name is Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong (her stage name is obviously Dido). She mentioned how she was bullied to having such a name and that Florian is a male German name. Also, her parents called her by Dido as a child. She said that it was cruel it was of her parents to name her one thing but then call her by another name. I don't blame her. I agree that it is cruel of parents to give children awful names. I read a case long ago where parents named their son "Redfreddy." He went to court and sued since that horrible name had made him a target of cruel teasing in school and of disbelief and suspicion by officials whenever he had to fill out forms. And thankully, he won his case and the parents were cited for child abuse. I'm relieved the Pikes were not foolish enough to do that to their children. It also would have ruined my reading experience of the Pikes also.

I like the BSC had the usual names instead of something like neveah or something. The nickname potential is difficult to say though.

Falcon is actually a Spanish surname I have seen before. I like unusual names. What was the strangest name in the books, I wonder? Clover and Daffodil?

Clover reminds me of that 2000s show called Totally Spies, the blond character was named Clover. Daffodil was were a little weird too.

My grandma gave me a stuffed calico cat when I was little that I named Clover. I’m sure I got it from the books!

On the subject of names, I’m really surprised that there were no repeated names in the books or ones that sound similar (Morgan and Megan) except for in one book.,

I love that for the most part, Ann Martin is very creative. I re-read Dawn and the Big Sleepover last night and loved reading about all the unique names, especially the Pike kids. And I loved that Mary Anne was reading Judy Blume's Tiger Eyes when Dawn came into her room to tell her about her idea for raising money to help the Zuni kids from the fire. 💙💙💙

I like the names Clover and Daffodil on their own, but it's when you have two sisters that the names start sounding goofy and gimmicky.
I will back up the comment about repeat names. In any normal school you would think there would be at least some repeats, especially when none of the sitters have particularly unusual names. The series came out in the 80s so I don't believe that there were no other girls named Stacey or Kristen.

I bet there probably is, but we just don’t hear about them. I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a minor character named Kristin.

The series came out in the 1980s so I don't believe that there were no other girls named Stacey or Kristen. I think of the BSC series as a 1990s series, but yes, I think in school and around Stoneybrook, there no doubt was more than one Stacey, more than one Kristen, more than one Karen, more than one Claudia, more than one Abby and more than one Anna. The books just don't go into detail about every name in the entire area of Stoneybrook. Stoneybrook, while not NYC or DC or Chicago, is just simply too big a town for everyone to be named or known or for everybody to know everybody, even in the schools. I am sure not everyone knew everybody even at SES or SMS, let alone SHS.

I’m pretty sure there was some reused names before.
