^I never did either until for some weird reason it came to me this morning. I finished and for me the best and worst parts will always be Sonny. I know no one else agrees. (I read through the entire thread this morning). As all of you know, I loved Louie and still wish like Mimi he had been healthy throughout the series. This book was one of the few, if only times other than the typical throw-away comment regarding Kristy’s Collie hat, where Louie was actually remembered. That said, I also wish Kristy had “fought” harder to explain that to Watson and her mom, who I don’t think (to our knowledge) she ever asked about Sonny. IDK, I just thought the idea was so very sweet and wish it had panned out. We’ve often talked about when Dawn begins to turn nasty about food. I haven't gotten to her "first" real patronizing moment but I sure found an one. In this, when Richie wants her take a bite out of a Godiva Chocolate, she does so, all the while feeling like she’s “biting into a bomb.” That was so, that and the Three Musketeers “Roach” at the beginning. to Dawn. She does, once again, (CA girls) have chicken in this one. I guess one bite of candy is a disaster but an entire chicken dinner is “okay?”

^ Knowing about the Thomas-Brewer history with pets (in the fact that they eventually adopt Scout and get Pumpkin, the cat, for example) I'm surprised that Sonny wasn't considered as an actual pet for any of the BSC members, especially Kristy's family.

^What made me angry was that I don't think Kristy ever really tried to explain why she wanted Sonny. I'm not necessarily blaming her because she was only 13 and probably was still feeling sad about Louie. I was more let down that Watson seemed to write off Sonny as "Kristy wants to bring home a random stray, if I let her, who knows how many others she'll find even here at home." I "get" that concern, I really do. In this case, Sonny was about Louie. From what we saw Kristy did seem attached to Sonny for Sonny so I don't think she was trying to "replace" Louie with him. I think she was as I said trying to honor Louie while at the same time, let his memory and love live on and her to heal a little more with a "relative" of his. I think Kristy at minimum if she really did feel this way should have talked with her mom. Depending how that went, Watson and Elizabeth, possibly with David Michael could have at least driven to NY to "meet" Sonny. Just my doggie two cents on a very humid Thursday morning.

I still feel like the sonny storyline was so forced. Kristy was so boring I. This book to me.
What I don't get is every time they go somewhere and return god and country come with them to the airport or train station! I find it ridiculous that ma brought tigger. I know what it takes to get cats in a carrier and how much they "love it". It just seems like they go away a lot so they would be used to saying goodbye and hello. I did think the Thomas brewer shirts were cite but corny!

Yes, that's pretty silly. Saying goodbye to Tigger at home would be just fine, but leave it to Mary Anne to be all dramatic and insist on toting him to the station.

^ You should! This book is very classic BSC. It's actually the 1st BSC book I read (as mentioned in a different post). If you think about it, this book shows off a lot of the BSC's inner traits and characteristics all rolled into one read.

UGHH!!! I forget how much I love this book. Next to Snowbound, I think it's my second favourite Super Special. I felt that every sitter had an interesting storyline this time. Claud and Mal: art school feud; Mary Anne and Stacey: babysitting worry; Jessi and boy ballerina crush; Dawn and her terror + Richie; Kristy and Sonny.
I enjoyed Ann's Dad's pictures but I have to say that something REALLY bothers me. I think he ruined the Chinatown picture by drawing that person in the phone booth. Seriously. Take out your book and look at it: the forehead and the nose/mouth area don't even match! It's horrible! It looks like a kid drew it and it really distracts me from the rest of the picture. It should have really been whited-out.
This time around, Frankie kind of reminded me of Tony from Who's The Boss. I pictured him as a mini Italian Tony. Which is actually kind of fitting seeing as Dawn kind of has some similar traits to Angela.
The Cummings family were SUPER nice in this book. Holy hospitality!
I loved reading about all the different activities in NYC. This book never really bored me.
******* My favourite part was when the Cummings doorbell rang and Dawn screamed. I loved this so much that I'm going to add it into the Dawn thread.

^ i checked my copy, and you are right. the nose looks way huge. i don't think i've ever paid attention to that picture before now. but in general i don't like the drawings in this book anyway -- they look all heavy and dark, but still cartoony.

I would have liked to see Claudia final drawing or something close to it as a picture. Ann was really teasing us with all that! Or even Mallory drawing the mice
