Funny, I noticed it on this cover and am now noticing it on others. Claudia is wearing what looks like the same necklace on #58 Stacey's Choice and #60 Mary Anne's Makeover. Assuming it's the same necklace, it looks like an ankh: (Sorry, these were the best pics I could find online. I swear it's a lot more obvious in person.) Anyway, I enjoy the cover continuity.

Well, he did put Claudia in those cowboy boots a lot too. Maybe he subconsciously gave her a few wardrobe staples.

I think it looks more like a cross in the "Mary Anne's Makeover" picture, and more like an ankh in the other one. Maybe she has one of each?

This was almost the last thread on the last page! I started rereading yesterday, and I forgot how funny it is when the club is leaving and their parents are all hugging them "protectively" and crying and then Kristy is like "okay Watson, I gotta go" and jumps on the train. And Stacey telling the parents, "I don't think anyone would WANT to buy a hot dog from a street vendor..." Claudia: "I would." Edited because I wrote "be a hot dog" ;D

^ i could easily see claudia rigging some sort of hot dog halloween costume.
it's kind of weird that stacey is the one saying nobody would want to buy from a street vendor. in the past she was the one telling the other girls not to be so afraid of the city, and the street vendors are such a big part of the culture of nyc.

This is O/T but there's a hot dog shaped playing structure at a pre-school I always drive by on the way to Wal-Mart. I thought of this especially now because I just went on Wednesday. Lol, I could see Claudia peddling hot dogs while wearing a costume as long as only young kids were around, that is. This was the girls' first real trip where a majority of their time would be spent unsupervised in a big city. I think CA is so sensationalized/idolized in Stoneybrook that probably all the families viewed where Dawn lived (CA girls) as some sort of paradise. Sure it was close to the big city but the overwhelming "wow" of how awesome CA was took away from any concern. In this book, for once, the parents may have been wondering what they had agreed too. Too bad all we saw of that was in the very humorous scene mentioned above.

I don't think being afraid of a street vendor is strictly a big city thing. They don't really have them around here, but I would be very selective of what I chose to buy if they did. Big salty pretzel, sure. Meat product, I don't know.

They have them all over the place here in downtown Toronto. They're actually pretty good hot dogs! In fact, it reminds me of when I first moved here for university in 2004. My friend is a vegetarian, and was at the time, and I remember her telling me that she saw a man with meaty, thick, muscular thighs running down the street one day and it made her crave a hot dog from a vendor. She went out and bought one immediately. To this day we still sometimes joke about it.

Dawn and Richie bought tacos from a vendor (vegetarian for Dawn, of course).

I misread that as hugging them "provocatively." Maybe's Stacey's remark was more anti-hot dog than anti-street vendor? I don't know.

Big salty pretzel, sure. Meat product, I don't know. Food trucks are big where I live, and they sell a lot of stuff. They're a step up from food carts, I think, because they usually have full kitchens in them. SMALL kitchens, but full ones. Not sure what kind of health and safety standards they have to obey, though. I'd still be leery of buying something off the street.

I've only read a few pages of this so far today but had a funny thought. Remember how in #4 and I think 5 Sharon calls Richard, Richie? In this book, it's Dawn's turn to have a Richie boyfriend (of sorts).
