I always thought my appendix needed to be removed as well whenever it hurt when I was a kid. I think I got that from Madeline though.

^ Madeline definitely made me worry. ;D That and the fact that my uncle's ruptured and he had to have emergency surgery on it when I was about 3 or 4 at the same time I was reading Madeline. I love that book and this one actually reminds me of it because of the appendix thing.

I used to read Madeline all the time as a little girl. I always wanted to be her for some reason.

I freaked out at that part in Madeline too, it definitely made me worry for a while.

Gah. Reading this thread makes my spleen hurt. I don't know where the spleen is, but wherever it is, it's hurting. I don't think I could've handled reading Karen's Spleen, I'm way too squeamish as it is.

I've read this one and it reminds me of Karen's Doll Hospital. I think this one is when Karen falls out of a tree. Poor Karen...

Karen had to go through what Nancy went through in Karen's Doll. Poor Karen. Does anyone remember what happened to Karen?

As I read this book, I thought on how Ann had her spleen removed.

I looked up photos of a ruptured spleen, and it looks similar to spotted Robin's egg.

Is there a LS book where the treehouse is built? I always wished I had one as a kid (closest was a playmobil treehouse that I loved). Also is Christina mentioned again? A funny (O/T) thing about my copy of this book (I got it at that one dollar bookstore) is that the young girl who at one time owned it, drew two MASH games on the back pages. She liked "Dean, Cameron, and Marc," on one and "Toby, Elton, and Steve," on the other, lol! That brought back a lot of memories. P.S. LOL! www.bored.com/playmash/ You can now play MASH online. ETA: I tried it for Stacey since she was the only one I could think of that had enough "boyfriends." For her it actually worked out perfectly except maybe for her husband! She is married to Toby, no kids, red convertible, is an actress, and they live in NY. I am not quite sure I see Stacey driving (herself) in the big city but the rest could sure work, depending on Toby.

They build the treehouse in LS #72, Karen's New Puppy.
Karen annoys me in this book. I feel a little sympathy when she goes into the hospital but she quickly loses all of my goodwill.

Thank you, Scrounge. My favorite part of this story was when Hannie and Nancy call "Halloo" up to Karen from outside the hospital. That sounded sweet and I was glad they were able to "visit" Karen that way. Mr. Berger reminded me of Mr. Behar whose 5th grade class I wanted to transfer into--my own female 5th grade teacher wasn't the best of people to me and I always had wished I had asked about switching rooms. Otherwise, I don't think this is one I need to hang onto, though loved the "animals everywhere" in the new playroom at the hospital. I would have liked seeing at least one picture of the finished room.

Sorry for the double post but it has been almost a year. In that time, I realized this book is definitely a keeper and in fact has helped me to complete my LS collection, I now only need 2. Still love the animals everywhere theme of the playroom and thought it was so cool and nice how the KIMCC and Mr. Berger's room all came together to brighten up the space. I would have loved reading more about their day live, including from Christina's and other kids in her class who really never get to meet outside of Debbie and Edwin, POV's. I was glad Karen and Christina had each other as a friend in the hospital. Speaking of the hospital, poor Karen. I felt so badly for her. I did though wonder why-- once she realized she needed both hands to climb down the tree house stairs-- she didn't just throw the wand down. I also thought Nancy was so sweet to figure out how Andrew could be a part of her and Karen's "secret snowball meeting" on page 5. Speaking of Andrew, I hadn't realized that he spent the week Karen was at the hospital at his dad's. I would have enjoyed an Andrew chapter and had the thought that had Nancy and Hannie gone back a second time to the hospital to call up Hello to Karen, maybe Andrew could have joined them. Did love how everyone old enough at the Big House visited Karen. It made me feel good to know that both of Karen's families came together to support her.

I haven't read this one. But, in Sweet Valley Twins, when one of the girls, were getting their tonsils out. (Maybe it's both of the twins.) After reading that book, I wanted my tonsils out, so I can have ice cream, to soothe my throat. My mom was like, I don't need my tonsils out. I was disappointment about it.

Yeah it was both of the twins at the same time, which is unusual. What are the odds of that right? I used to wonder if the book before it about the fishing trip caused it I loved the 2 books before that so much: Caroline's Missing Doll and Bossy Steven. The cake contest part was my favourite, wanted to try the angel food cake and peanut butter/marshmallow cake
