Thanks guys! ;D You make a great point, macca. I'm pretty sure that my parents would think it very odd if my friends were hanging out in my room without me. And I think that Claudia should've apologized to her friends for ditching them. She did, but I think she should've mentioned that no matter how her friendship with Ashley ended up, she shouldn't have ditched them constantly. It seems that she only went back to her BSC friends because she had a fight with Ashely and realized what a bad friend Ashely is. But it goes both ways - the BSC should've apologized for doing those terrible things to Claud. Sorry for ruining your visualization of the Jackie sculpture, aln! I love the idea of Jackie's face on a Roman bust. I can picture Jackie with the little garland around his head!

^ I agree about everyone apologizing. As for the Kishis, were any of them except Janine even home? I did wonder what they thought but guessed they were just so out of tune with what was going on in Claudia's life that they didn't really notice.

^ Mimi was home at the very least. Claudia mentions that Mimi doesn't mind the girls being over when Claud's not there since she loves the BSC. I still think it's slightly weird, though.

^ I think that was Mimi post-stroke, though, and with some of the cognitive problems she had, I doubt she noticed too much. Also, like you said, she loves the BSC and is very close with MA, especially. I do agree it's weird but just doubt the Kishis even realized what was going on. Stoneybrook parents often don't seem too involved in their kids' lives.

^ no, but the Kishis were involved enough to want to censor Claud's reading I don't remember if they were home during meeting times or not. We never ever hear about them being around.

^ They wanted to censor it but didn't realize she had the Nancy Drews or the junk food. ;D Still not sure how they could have missed that.

^ obviously never ever ever went into Claudia's or took any notice of what she was doing. Because surely they'd have caught her reading the Nancy Drews occasionally

^ Agree. Mr. and Mrs. Kishi just seem so clueless about what Claudia and Janine are really doing, though they have no problems making rules and having expectations.

I'm not really a fan of any BSC parents, come to think of it. I loved Jessi's dad in Happy Holidays, Jessi! and Mrs Pike had her moments (although a lot of people seem to hate her) but none of the others appealed to me at all.

The whole situation with censoring Claudia's reading yet not doing much else reminds me of the Pike parents. They have almost no rules however, Mallory must not wear sparkles!

^ I never got the impression that the Pikes were really hippies but just that they didn't want to bother with fighting over every little thing with 8 kids. A little thing would seem like the sparkles, though, so not sure why they were so opposed to it. Or did Mallory just think they were?

But I remember MA saying that the Pikes had a "liberated" parenting style, so I guess that's why I assumed "hippy" In the end of one book - I think it was Welcome Back, Stacey - Mal was wearing some "wild" outfit with a sparkly sweater and her parents were MAAAAAAAAAAD. And I remember her introducing Claudia by saying "she wears stuff that I'm not even allowed to look at in stores, much less buy. Like short skirts and glittery nail polish"

Hmm...maybe the Pikes just wanted Mallory to have sensible clothes since they were easier to hand down to the other kids than sparkly sweaters. My sisters several years older than I am, so by the time I fit into their clothes, they were way out-of-date.

I could see that being a reason, ringdings.
I thought of this book and Claudia Saturday. At Red Lobster we were seated under a painting by Andrew Wyeth. Of course my husband didn't get the significance. LOL. He's all "it's just some painting."
