There's nothing wrong with what she said. If you are not into music, you just won't get it. Take it from me.

The scene where Katie Beth and her deaf sister are crying on stage and Jessi rushes over to them, heroically signs for them and saves the day, then glances over at the audience and says, "Are there anymore flowers?" to which the audience cheers and applauds - was really lame.

I really love the conversation Becca and Kristy have when Kristy baby-sits. For some reason, Becca seems much more likable (and genuine a character) to me when she doesn't either go over with Jessi to the Pikes' or is already playing with Charlotte, usually being watched by Jessi. The change of sitter was refreshing. I don't think Kristy ever sits at the Ramseys again which is too bad because it did sound like she and Becca were bonding. (Starts on Page 117 of original cover). I did also like that Jessi on her own arranged for Matt's class to go to the opening performance, that was very sweet. Maybe if all Jessi's stories (sans Jewel Thieves) weren't (to me) a similar ballet plot recycled, I might have actually liked her character.

I really enjoy the ending, from the arranging the recital part onwards. I think the last scene is sweet and the stuff with Kesha is really nice. The beginning of the book was a little dry, but I like Jessi much more than a lot of people so I don't actually mind too much when stuff focuses mostly on her and her dancing as long as it moves along reasonably quickly.

I actually prefer the ballet plots (Dance School Phanton, Big Break) to this book. This was one of the earlier books that I didn't own until I was an adult, so I never really had a chance to get as attached to it as I did to some of the others. I'm also not that into the Braddocks, which is another reason why this one isn't my favorite.

Ughhhh ... I wish I wasn't so OCD that I have to read all of the book. Okay good things: I really live the description of the classroom for the deaf. It seems like all the other senses are stimulated and I hope that in real life, that is how the classrooms are. I also enjoyed Claudia making ghost pate and Karen actually eating the liverworst blech!!!!!
Other than that, this book was boring and way too over the top jessi is awesome

I reread this one last night and one thing that stood out to me was how the Ramseys seem like such a nice family. They're very close with each other, and I like reading about their interactions. I've always liked the Jessi/Squirt relationship because they have a 10 year age gap and that's what my sister and I had, too, so reading about them reminds me a little bit of my sister and me.
The Ramseys eat breakfast together every morning, which is nice, too. That seems like something families in books and on TV do all the time, but in real life I don't know anyone who has time for weekday family breakfasts. Everyone's either too rushed or has to leave at different times.
Katie Beth's family sounded like jerks. They knew almost zero sign language and their daughter lived at a special school out of state and they hardly ever saw her. I wonder why she didn't just go to the same school Matt attended in Stamford. It made it seem like her family didn't really want to deal with a "special" kid.

I thought the beginning of the book was pretty boring. I find the ballet subplot very boring (I find ANY of Jessi's ballet subplots boring) and I just skim them. Madame Noelle or however you spell her name has an extremely annoying (and fake) accent. However, there were a lot of a things I DID like in this book: 1) I loved the social interactions between the Ramsey family. It's really nice that they eat breakfast together during the weekdays. In my family, we always eat dinner together, but we don't eat breakfast together during the weekdays because everybody's always too rushed or has to leave at different times. I usually eat breakfast alone since my parents goes to work first and my siblings start school before me. So, by the time I wake up, everybody's gone. Yikes, that's way too much information. Anyway, I wish my family got to eat breakfast together. 2) I love Jessi and Squirt's relationship. Their relationship were always so close in the series (to come think of it, the whole Ramsey family seems very close and family-oriented). It reminds me of me and my little brother's relationship. We have a twelve year age gap between us. Because of the age gap so huge, we were extremely close. And we still are. 3) I loved the conversation Jessi has with Haley when Matt and his friends play ball. I felt bad for Haley since she felt left out. I never noticed it before but Jessi and Haley do seem to have a pretty close sitter/charge relationship. It's so, so sweet. 4) When Kristy babysits for the Ramsey's, I loved how she and Becca bonded. I wish that they show their relationship more (does Kristy even babysit for the Ramsey's family ever again?). I felt bad for Becca when she couldn't fit in. I was glad when she met Charlotte but I do like the pre-Charlotte days. In the later series, Becca is always hanging out with Charlotte. 5) I loved the chapter where Claudia babysat for the Brewer kids and taught them what sign language was. Karen kept calling Jessi to ask what sign she wanted to know. It must be difficult to teach sign language over the phone! 6) I thought it was so sweet and sincere of Jessi to invite Matt and the school for the deaf to the ballet. 7) I liked how they describe the deaf classroom. I have to say Jessi's Secret Language is one of my favorite books. I have a severe hearing loss but I don't use sign language to communicate (however, I do know how to use it). I was able to relate to Matt, Haley, Becca, and a lot of the characters in this book. ETA: Oh, I totally forgot Jessi meeting Katie Beth's deaf sister (I forgot what was her name...)! The family sounds like a bunch of jerks. I feel so bad for Katie Beth's sister. It must be horrible to not fit in your own family. They don't bother to learn sign language to communicate with her and they just send her off to a special school. It would be cool if she went to the school Matt went. Did she ever make another appearance in the series? I don't think so but then again I haven't read the entire series yet.

Am I remembering correctly, was Katie Beth's sister named Adele and Katie Beth said sometimes the family will just shout really loudly and hope Adele hears them? Yeah, jerks.

^ OH, her name was Adele. I remember. Yeah, Katie Beth mentions to Jessi that her family will just shout really loudly and hope that she hears them. That saddens me because Adele is basically, like, an outsider in her family. There are so many parents who don't give a crap about their children. I remember towards the end of the book Katie Beth tells Jessi that she is taking a sign language course so at least SHE cares.

Just got done reading this book. Now, back @ the library. The beginning of the story was boring. I enjoy reading the end of the story. When they were going to a restaurant after the recital. Jessi's mom said, her friends should called their parents tell them, their going be a little late. Jessi said theirs a pay phone out in the hall way. Jessi thinking. (my friends was looking through their purse for changes. I laughed at that. Cause, now everyone has cell phones, ipad, blackberrys or whatever electronic device they have. they can call or text their parents. their gonna be late. I don't think theirs any pay phones out in public anymore. (that works) Anytime, I go to a public pace. I'll see the pay phone off the wall or the stand used be on. Just the wall where the pay phone used to be. I think you might find them antique store. But, probably cost alot of money. Where will you put it in your house? if you have room for it. I don't remember, reading this book, at the library. I must been reading too fast. To be turn at the library, in time. This the next book, after I'm done reading Logan Likes Mary Anne.
