I didn't see a thread for this book. What do you guys think of it? I actually kind of liked it. I must've read it a LOT as a kid, cause everything came flooding back, especially the bit about Jessi and Becca wanting their parents to put in a swimming pool I mean how pointless would that be? It'd be sooo expensive, considering their house is already built (and assuming they'd get an in-ground pool) and honestly how many months of use would it get? I live in Arizona, so tons of people have pools in their backyards, but we also get like, 7 months of use out of them. I grew up and live in New England (specifically, Massachusetts), and I knew/know several people with in-ground pools. It's not that unusual. You just drain it and cover it up with tarpaulin for the winter. Some of them even have retractable tops.

I hate this one and we've just had a sports themed book right before this one so why is there two in a row ? Did the ghostwriter want it that way ? Or was Ann on a sports kick? I always speed read through this one while I reread the books because not only is it boring Jessi is so conceited about how good she is she doesn't know what it means to be humble .

Jessi looks like she's on Baywatch. That is a ton of people in the stands for a middle school swim meet. She just looks cold in this one. Titles: Jessie and the big swimming competition A difficult race for Jessi Jessi in Deep Water These are all better because they don't give away the ending.

Ugh. I hate to say it, but I didn't really like anything about this book. I hate to be so negative, but it might be my least favorite so far.
I don't mind the sports books; I actually like reading about Kristy's Krushers. I just think this one is so poorly done and almost everyone was annoying. I don't know why the BSC was so pushy about the shy and/ or unathletic people participating in the mini Olympics. They were SHOCKED that Charlotte didn't want to participate? Are you kidding me? Do you KNOW Char? Ugh.
The title gives the ending away, and throughout the book, I really couldn't figure out why Jessi cared about synchro so much all the sudden. She's barely starting a new sport and freaks out about doing poorly in the competition? I don't get it. And she puts so much time into practicing, way more than ballet. I'm not saying she shouldn't work hard at this, I'm just not sure why she cares so much. I'm also wondering when she baby-sat, being busy every afternoon and weekend. Normally Kristy would have a cow about that kind of thing.
I feel like a LOT of time passes in this book. Jessi has one (or two?) synchro classes, then all the sudden she's been practicing in them for a month. Just really bad pacing.
Plus, she barely saw Mallory (who, I hate to say, was also very annoying in this book). I agree with several commenters who said that this is too similar to Dream Horse in many ways. Obviously the ending is different, of course Jessi is like a prodigy. Someone said they wished the outcomes were swapped (Mal getting first place and Jessi placing lower), but that would be too interesting. Lol. Of COURSE Jessi is great at synchro.
This is also written by Lerangis and... it shows lol. I find his style a bit obnoxious and hit and miss. Obviously this one was a miss.
Hmm, I probably should say something positive. I did sort of like the chapter about the SMS sports festival and I liked Elise. I wish she showed up in the series again and that she got to know Jessi outside of synchro. I think they challenge each other and that Elise has a good sense of humor (I liked the ice cream bet). So much potential. Maybe she does reappear and I missed it?

She only appears in this book. It's so lame to constantly introduce characters for one book only, but it makes sense. It's like when you leave a job and realize your friendships were mostly just proximity.
