Frankly I think they cringe more about dealing with Mrs. P, and of course the clohes that Jenny wears (because those are what Mrs. P chooses.)

I was reading this website on my lunch break at work called "The Customer is Not Always Right" and laughed out loud at this one. It is so Mrs. P!
Let's Not Make Her A Real Angel Setting: Pool in Philadelphia, PA
(A very small child of about 4 walks up to the slide at our pool.)
Me: "I am so sorry sweetie, but you are a bit too small to go down the slide. Maybe next time!
(The child leaves in hysterics, only to bring back her mother.)
Mother: "Why did you not let my angel go down the slide?"
Me: "She is under 4 feet tall."
Mother: "Yes, I know. She's an absolute angel."
Me: "Our policy clearly states that we cannot let a child under 4 feet tall ride the slide. She could get seriously injured or possibly drown when she reaches the bottom."
Mother: "Yes, I know, cute as a button."
Me: "My manager can further explain this to you, but I can't risk her safety."
Mother: "But she is my angel!"
Me: "She's also under 4 feet tall. She could die, ma'am."
Mother: "Well its not like she can help it! How dare you make my angel feel bad about her height!"
Oh man I was laughing so hard. Carrying on about her angel. I don't think Mrs. P would ever jeopardize her child's safety, but the whole thing was just hilarious!

I found Jenny's one (or one of few) actual bratty moments in Jessi's Secret Language when Jenny makes fun of Matt. I was actually surprised she had no problem with Jessi's skin color. I guess kids in Stoneybrook are more prone to tease those with disabilities or differences than people of a different race. Obviously doing either stinks, I just would have pegged "bratty" Jenny on at least being surprised by Jessi.

Jenny makes me smile when I read about her. My heart goes out for the kid because her mother is just as controlling and mentally abusive as my mother was to me. My mother would make me wear what she wanted me to, all the way up to highschool and I was never allowed to have an identity or be myself. Jenny's behavior struck a few cords with me as well in our simularities. "Jenny tries hard but she can't live up to her mother's expectation of her" is a line from one of the books. Jenny's temper tantrums and her desire to just "Be a kid" is one of those things I also had in common with her.

^I'm sorry you had to go through that, Jennifer. I also have some negative clothing related memories as a kid. I wonder if Jenny ever stood up to her mother?

^ I think the closest was in Mary Anne and Miss Priss, where Jenny became a slob towards the end of the book.

^True. I loved at the end when Jenny (in away stood up for herself) after being "rejected" by some agency, grabbed her Dad's hand so he could accompany her to the kickball game. I wish that had continued. (The kickball game and Mr. P being more present (that we saw) in Jenny's life.

^I loved Flamingo Fight scene with Mary Anne. That should have been a picture in MA's Scrapbook.

I never minded reading about her. She was just a product of having been spoiled and she didn't know any different. I always thought her name was a little too plain/common though. Maybe something more elaborate like Angelina would have worked better and tied in with the 'little angel' nickname

^Now that you mention the name, I'm surprised her mother didn't insist on her going by Jennifer.

^Andrea (to me) has an even more formal ring to it than Jennifer. The only Andrea I've ever known was anything but formal or as it turned out a good person. Maybe Mrs. P would eventually "loosen up" ala Richard. I hated that label for him but it would sure work for her!
