I'm getting all of my impressions of Andrew and Karen from the LS books (which I love )) In the regular series, I don't care all that much for Karen (her supernatural obsession is really emphasized more) and Andrew seems a bit less whiney and cuter.

That would explain why I always kind of liked Andrew and Karen had a tendency to get on my nerves a tad. I really do need to read a bit more LS.

Even though I still don't like Andrew based on my LS persepective, he is sometimes cute. In Baby-sitters on Board, I loved it how he asked what a "crock pit" (cockpit) was. He seems to always mess up words like that in a cute way. I thought it was adorable how excited he and Karen were at Disney World and enjoyed reading about them doing things with Watson and Elizabeth. I liked it how Karen sat with Elizabeth in the Haunted Mansion, especially, as I am glad when they have a close relationship. (talking about them like they're real again I had to laugh when Andrew got scared by Snow White. This reminds me of how I freaked out going on the Pinocchio ride at Disneylad after going on Snow White's Adventures (it's scarier there than at Disney World ) but I was 17!

I love Andrew in Claudia and Mean Janine when he scares Jenny into putting on her smock. That was cute.

Another cute Karen and Andrew moment was in Kristy and the Secret of Susan (which really needed this to lighten things up when they are playing "Let's All Come In" with Stacey and Karen says Emily will be her child and Andrew will be her pet monkey "Spunky." It is times like this when Andrew goes along with things without complaining that I actually like him okay (happens most of the time in the BSC books).

I didn't mind Andrew as much in the regular BSC series compared to the Little sister series. It probably had to do with the fact that in the little sister series it was a completley different perspective on Andrew, it was from Karen's point of view. Andrew was a little bit more cute and redeemable in the regular series.

I'd forgotten about "Spunky" It sort of reminds me of when I was in 6th grade and did a play about Jacques Marquette (The explorer) for my history project and I made my friend Wilma be his dog "kiwi".

^ love it, dawnomite My little cousin is doing a project on Marquette right now - maybe I should suggest she use kiwi (though the way she lets her 1 friend boss her around, she'd probably end up being the dog

Just read Karen’s Home Run (which I liked and have been laughing ever since about Andrew throwing the bat and having to be put in a “cage”. This reminds me of a monkey in a cage and for some reason, Andrew reminds me of a little impish monkey anyway (wasn’t he a monkey in a school play or something? I know he was a cat but I also seem to remember a monkey – maybe it’s just my imagination). So now I keep seeing Andrew as a little monkey in a cage. Loved it when he threw the fit about not wanting to go in the cage with his face turning red than purple. Karen’s descriptions were so funny and I thought it was really sweet how she tried so hard to help Andrew (wearing a football helmet for protection and all ;D)

The monkey thing may have come from when Karen made him be a monkey while playing Let's All Come In.

^ I think you're right, Mckay. "My pet monkey named Spanky will go in the cage" ;D Thanks for reminding me of something else I found funny just a few weeks ago.

Was the monkey really named Spanky? Spanky the monkey?! Wow. That's daring of AMM.

Ha ha - I was JUST coming back to my post to modify and say that the monkey was "Spunky". I was laughing at myself all morning after I realized what I had accidently put - Spanky - but I was just able to get back on. That would be daring naming the little guy Spanky. I think I got that because my dad was just talking about this guy he works with who they call "Spanky" (don't ask me why) who also reminds me a little of a monkey. Well, maybe this will give everyone a good laugh. It did me ;D Another cute thing about Andrew is I love how he always messes up words - like "crockpit" instead of "cockpit." I just read another one in Karen's Toothache this morning but can't remember the exact word now.

'Spanky the monkey' is the greatest conceivable name for a character in a children's book. (Not that 'Spunky' doesn't have a certain amount of innuendo attached to it, too... ) To stay on topic: I must have liked Karen at first, because she was my introduction to the series (I got into Little Sister before the 'grown-up' BSC books), but I really can't stand reading about her now. Even as a child, I thought she seemed rather spoilt and almost malicious at times. The book that really made me dislike her was the one where her family made New Year's resolutions and she kept notes on who broke them and then read off the list over dinner. I know that kind of behaviour would be somewhat typical for a kid of that age, but she claims Nannie 'broke' her resolution about making more effort with her physiotherapy or something like that. My memory's a bit vague as I haven't read an LS since I was tiny, but I'm fairly sure Watson doesn't even get all that angry with her. If my daughter had publicly insulted her grandmother (or any other relative, for that matter) over a sensitive issue like that, I'd have throttled her. Watson's a nice bloke, but sometimes I think he makes a more effective stepfather than a 'real' father.
