I know there is a lot of "anti-Watson" sentiment but I just read Kristy and the Walking Disaster and couldn't help liking him in that one too. I thought it was really sweet how he helped Kristy with the baseball team and how she told him about being excited that Bart liked her. I also liked it how she thought about what Watson told her about trying. It's good that she has a "father figure" since her own father is conspicuously absent. Despite his faults, I think Watson is a pretty good guy. A lot better than some of the other BSC fathers (Stacey's for example).

I like Watson. He was always really nice to Kristy and her friends, taking them on vacation and whatnot, and he seemed to make a genuine effort to be close with Kristy. I mean he took on 4 new children as his own, how bad can he be?

On the cover of Kristy and Mr. Mom he doesn't look anything like I pictured him. He's a little too.. roly-poly and jolly looking on there. I always pictured him as tall, somewhat thin (or maybe just average), with slightly thinning brown hair.

^ funny, thats how I pictured Richard Spier. For some reason, I actually did picture Watson to be that roly-poly type. Dunno why.

^Yeah, I actually picture Richard like that too! Only thinner than I picture Watson. I picture them both as being slightly "distinguished". Especially Watson since I think of him as being a little older than the rest of the BSC dads.

Watson is the CEO of Unity Insurance according to Abby and the Worst Kid ever. Since he lives in Ben Brewer's mansion, old BB probably founded the company. Hey, maybe Stacey could go to work for him with all of her math skills. Since Claud always seems to get jobs as an artist - wedding consultant in Here Come the Bridesmaids, intern in Stacey and the Fashion Victim, etc.

How old is Watson? Judging from his pictures and just his general demeanor, I think of him as quite a bit older than other BSC parents (who I imagine to be mid to late 30s). I always thought he was like, mid to late 40s, but his kids are only 6 (or 7) and 4.

Not a visual I want to think about, but men can make babies forever. It's so common in Hollywood for yucky old guys in their 60s or 70s to have babies with their 20something wives. Which I think is rather unfair to the kids because by the time they get out of high school their dads will either be in their 80s or dead, and that's rather young to lose a parent. This is off the topic of Watson, sorry!
Anyway, I pictured Watson in his mid 50s. Old enough to be considered "old" to kids, but not really old. His first wife could have easily been 10-15 years younger than him. Everyone in Stoneybrook was so white collar career oriented that they most likely waited a bit to have kids anyway. Plus didn't he have heart problems? That's not so common in your 30s, but becomes more of a concern in the late 40s/50s.

^That's true. I am guessing his first wife was quite a bit younger than he was, but then I wonder why he wasn't ever married before and never had kids before she came along. It seems like all the other parents are fairly young, like they had their kids in their mid 20s, rather than in their 30s. Maybe Watson was focussing on work too much or something to meet a woman.

I always pictured Watson to be in his 40's or so. I mean, when you're 13, anything over the age of 35 is OLD, but I imagine that Kristy's mom was about 40 or so. So yeah, I always saw Watson as like 45ish, because that makes him seem ridiculously old to a 13 year old, old enough to have heart problems, young enough to have small children, and not be robbing the cradle horribly.

Kristy's mom was 37, I think. I'm not sure where I read that, or if I did, but I'm pretty sure it's right. I know she's over 35, at least, because Charlie made some crack in one of the earlier books about 35 being over the hill, and Elizabeth said she'd better start shopping for Geritol or something.

I agree that Watson is 45-ish, but I think that Karen's mom is quite a bit younger than him. I always picture her as being in her late 20s, married to this older guy and having his babies, but soon realizing they have nothing in common and it's not worth it even though he's a millionaire. So then she settles on a nice simple guy like Seth and all is well!

This is going back to the stuff about Emily Michelle. From reading this thread, I've been thinking that maybe Emily Michelle will end up being like Claudia. She struggles with learning, she's pretty creative at certain points and she's more attatched to her grandmother than her own mother. Ring any bells?
