On a livejournal community they were talking about Janine talking high school and university courses, and talking about in real life how students can take high school and university courses at the same time. I don't remember being able to do both in Australia, is that possible? How about in countries other than the USA as well? My high school offered that option. Dual enrollment, they called it. I didn't choose to do that, but I wish I did. That would have helped when I actually went to college.

The Kishi family has lived at 38 Bradford Court at least since she was two years old.

It's said in Claudia's Book and other places that Claudia has lived in the house at 38 Bradford Court her whole life, that the Kishi family was there since before she was born. If Janine is around 3 years older than Claud and they were there before Claud was born, that means that they've been at that house since at least when Janine was two years old. I would venture to guess that it's been longer, though. But since we get things from Claud's POV, and she tells things in terms of her life span, that's all we can say definitively.

I think Janine must have been under a lot of pressure from her parents to achieve. She made a comment somewhere about how Mr. and Mrs. Kishi would die if Janine didn't become a physicist. In #7 (I think) she says something about how all she hears is "Janine, don't you have homework/studying to do?" for those reasons, I feel sad for Janine.

Me too. I was glad for her when she won that accomplished student award in Great Search because SHE seemed really happy about it and about all the attention and recognition she received. But I always feel bad when we catch a glimpse of the lonely Janine who takes an interest in the kind of life Claudia has.

I kind of know what Janine feels like. I mean, I'm not super-smart but I don't have much of a social life, either. I spend most of my time in my room on my computer.

But I always feel bad when we catch a glimpse of the lonely Janine who takes an interest in the kind of life Claudia has. ^ I sort of feel that that is part of the reason why Janine sometimes bugged her friends (by correcting their grammar, etc.) whenever they came over.

I loved Janine. She dealt with her bratty younger sister and her sister's equally bratty friends (they were awful to her) with unending patience.

^ Yes, Janine is awesome. I just commented in another thread about how nice she always was to Claudia's friends.

Well that makes me sad when I think of it like that. You mean Janine didn't knock on Claudia's door and interrupt a BSC meeting just to criticize the usage of an apostrophe? She wanted to sit down and eat a few Oreos with the girls? Aw.

With all due respect, I always thought her IQ was exaggerated. If she truly had a 196 IQ, she would be in MIT solving mathematical theromes. (Pardon my spelling). But I generally found her facsinating.
