In 'Mary Anne's Revenge,' Austin is on the yearbook committee with MA and she mentions that he's on the football team with Logan, just laughs when people tease him about being named after two cars, and that she likes him because he doesn't act weird around her- the way some people have- because she's broken up with Logan. I like him for that last part. He sounds like a nice guy.

I like that Austin was consistently 'just friends' with the BSC, like him and Stacey going to dances together and stuff. According to one of the books, I think #52, this works out well because Claudia and Stacey don't have to 'fight over' him. KNUDGE, KNUDGE.

^I agree. I like Austin too.
I really liked Cary in MA and the Silent Witness.

Austin always sounded like a nice guy to me. He seemed like a decent friend to the BSC.

Didn't he ever want a serious relationship with either of them, or even with someone else? It just seems that a lot of the SMS kids (mostly the BSC) have this idea that they can't date casually, so I'm wondering why Austin seems to be different in that respect. He always seems to taking Claud or Stacey to a dance- he never has anyone else he might like to take?

Were Austin and Trevor mentioned more in the FF books? I haven't read those so maybe I should to get more info on their characters. What about Pete?

Austin appears a bit in 'MA's Revenge,' and Trevor is mentioned now and then in a couple of books, like just 'oh, there's Trevor.' Pete is in 'Stacey and the Boyfriend Trap.' I haven't read all of the FF books, so I'm not quite sure what else they pop up in.

SMS boys....A LOT different from the boys at my SMS. (I went to a school with same initials!)
Anyway, I didn't really like Logan all that much. I like the books that he narrated in, but otherwise, I didn't care for him. He made me yawn.
I have always liked Alan Gray. Even in book #2, he wanted to ask Kristy to the dance, but didn't know how to do it. Foreshadowing, much? I'm so glad that he and Claudia went out in the FF series. I like guys that are funny, so that might be it. Forget candlelit dinners at 13.
I might be alone on this, but I also like Cary. I only read about him the FF series, but for some reason, I like him. He's sort of like Dylan McKay from 90210. A loner, but has a past, and there's more than him than what's on the surface.
Pete Black, Quint, Robert, Wes the math teacher, Rick Chow, et al, did nothing for me.
Ethan sounded like a nice guy.
I have no opinion on Bart.

Yeah, I also like Alan Gray when he's just being goofy and a little annoying. The later books where he was mean do nothing for me, but I think the ghostwriters just put his name there instead of creating someone new. But then he was normal again in the FF series, so whatever. I really liked him in FF.
I adore Cary. I think you hit the nail on the head. There's so much more to him than what you see. Even when Kristy reads his journal, it's mostly fiction, so she doesn't even know much about him. But then he can be a nice guy, like in MA and the Silent Witness. I think he's more multi-dimensional than inconsistent. I mean, he's more of an ass to Kristy than anyone else, and he probably only keeps bugging her because she reacts to it.

^ I completely agree with you, wenonah4th. Erm, how many 13 year old boys do you know who are sweet and sensitive to their 'girlfriend's' (using that term rather loosely) emotions? NOT MANY! Alan is very realistic, IMO, and in my experience with kids of his age.

Actually, nothingtolose, I almost have to disagree even in light of my own comments, based on my own experience. When I was in 8th grade I did have a boyfriend, who was a year ahead, and for all it was a first love thing, I have to say he was pretty caring. This is going to sound like a BSC plot: his family not having much money, he shovelled snow that winter to buy something for me for Valentine's day. (no, I don't have it anymore.) The world is full of "a nice guy, great for someone else" and he definitely turned out to be that way.

^ Aww, that's really cute! and well, to be fair, I didn't have a boyfriend at that age, so maybe if I was actually dating a guy, then it would have been different. All I can remember is that this is about the time the guys used to tease the girls and started slapping all the girl's backsides and snapping their bra straps (like who was it, Pete? lol)

Yeah, I volunteered at a nursing home when I was that age, and there was a boy that was my age who also volunteered. He bought me some crappy stuff from the gift store. But it was less sweet and more creepy because he was weird and unattractive. And he didn't know me long enough to warrant gift giving.
