Pamela was the new girl/snob in Karen's class. She was in Karen's sleepover mainly, but she appeared in a few other books. Mostly I remember Karen was always sticking her tongue out at her. So ... is Pamela really a snob, or just misunderstood?
Edited to avoid double posting, but in "Karen's candy", Karen hits pamela, ( I think Karen was asking for trouble, but that's just my opinion) and they get banned from the Halloween parade, so they end up working together to sneak in the parade, and never tell anyone about it. It kind of secretly brings them together, I think. That was a time when pamela was pretty nice, or atleast better. I think she was always trying to be mature, because maybe she wanted to be like her older sister, and that is how her sister acted. In all fairness, Karen did the same thing with Kristy, it just happens that Kristy was nicer than pamela's sister.

I think she was truly a snob. She was like a mini Mean Girl and would have been powerless if her two friends ever got sick of her.

I didn't like Pamela at all in "Karen's Sleepover." Refused to eat pizza because it'd give her bad breath, refused to sleep in a sleeping bag, made fun of their movie choice (Wizard of Oz, natch), made fun of Karen's cat and blanket, implied Karen was a baby, etc. I don't even like Karen that much, but Pamela was rather bratty.

There were a few moments in the Little Sister series were Pamela was nice to Karen (making her a paper flower to apologize for teasing her in Karen's Half-Birthday, and making her a card that said 2Sweet 2Be 4Gotten in Karen's Big Move) but most of the time she was a snob along with her followers Jannie and Leslie.

I haven't read all of the LS books, so I missed any instances of Pamela being nice to Karen.
Pamela reminded me of girls I knew in elementary school who seemed older than they really were, and thought they were cool. So I could always relate to the times that Karen felt babyish around her.

I think Pamela acts like a snob to get attention, but inside, she's jealous of Karen.

candykane, I love that Claud quote. I remember reading it but forgot which book it's from.
I'm also one who can't really remember any instances of Pamela being nice. She also seemed way too blase in her first book (Karen's Sleepover), which is kind of strange for such a young kid. She does act differently than this in other books, though.

She probably got the whole blase act from the much-older (16?) sister.

That Claudia quote is from "Claudia and the Bad Joke." It's on page 52.
And I agree about Pamela's could-care-less attitude being something she copied from her older sister. I remember in "Karen's Sleepover," Pamela said she had a 16-year-old sister who let her borrow her perfume. I also remember Karen being awed by the outfit Pamela was wearing on her first day at Stoneybrook Academy. She had tennis shoes with the tongues rolled down (why is that cool?), and a fashionable hat that the teacher didn't make her take off.

Children's books, most likely? I don't think it said, for all we know she wrote romance novels.

I think it said children's books... I remember that one, candykane, with Pamela's first day... I remember 'with the tongues rolled down' being in italics, like it was the coolest, most unheard of thing EVER!

I can't imagine how they'd stay rolled down!
