Yeah, I agree. Love Pamela on the cover of Karen's Candy. She does look cooler than Karen :s

So much has to do with how they're raised! And it doesn't get better- my dh went to university with a lot of grown-up Pamelas, IMO. He was in Long Island, fwiw.

I think she was a brat but there were moments when I thought that she was nice.

It would have been great to see a scene where Cokie babysits Pamela!

I picture Pamela as shopping at somewhere like Justice for Girls. www.shopjustice.com/ Being a boy mom, I've never been in there but last time I passed in on my way to the carter's outlet to stock up on winter clothes for my son, I was thinking the window displays looked like something Pamela would wear lol. I think Karen and Pamela were jealous of each other. Karen envied Pamela's trendy clothes and Pamela was often one upping her like topping her two thanksgivings with a disney world trip and stealing all Karen's neighbors during the chocolate sale. Pamela probably envied Karen constantly being the teacher's pet, her millionaire daddy, and fake wedding with Ricky. Karen also seemed to get everything like spelling bee champ, flower girl for the teacher and pizza queen. I'd be a snob to her too.

^ I just checked out Shop Justice and I totally agree! I can also see Pamela wearing those clothes (and even Karen). Good eye!

I think Karen and Pamela were jealous of each other. Yeah definitely, in the first book Karen is like "all of us thought she was beautiful and wanted her to be our friend."

But what made Pamela turn over to the dark side in her very first book? Was she jealous that Karen could relax and sleep on the floor and have pizza breath and make boyfriend shaped cookies?

Maybe she was insecure about being the new student and hid it by acting like a snob and maybe she may have felt like she had to act that way to keep whatever friends she made.

I agree, anzuhana.
I think she probably was insecure. Moving is never easy for kids. I also got the feeling that Pamela was top dog at her old school and now she had to compete with Karen. Being a new kid you come it at the bottom of the social pecking order and maybe for Pamela the cool and snobby attitude was her attempt to win people over by showing how mature she was.

Katie, if she was at the top of the pecking order at her old school, do you think she was like Karen or do you think she acted similarly to how she did with Karen and her classmates?

I love Karen, in the LS series, but I can understand how she might be difficult to get along with. I'm not surprised that (some) girls dislike her.

Katie, if she was at the top of the pecking order at her old school, do you think she was like Karen or do you think she acted similarly to how she did with Karen and her classmates? I don't know that she was exactly like Karen but you often see kids going along with Karen's ideas and thinking what she wants to do is great. She's a bit of a leader. I think maybe Pamela was the kid that everyone wanted to follow at her old school although not for the reasons as Karen. Karen's big ideas are why kids like her. I think Pamela was liked because she got the trendy clothes and new toys first.
