Are we allowed to start a topic about an associate member?
If so, any thoughts?

I wish we'd seen more of her. Apart from a brief period where Dawn was in California for six months, her only real appearance in the series was in the Chapter Two description. It didn't even seem as if several of the girls had met her.
I thought it was funny that Shannon's looks are often described as "interesting". Ouch. Probably not supposed to be offensive, but considering Claudia, Stacey, Dawn etc are described as "beautiful, sophisticated, stunning, gorgeous" I don't think "interesting" is too complimentary.
Also, can they make up their minds re Tiffany's age?! She jumps from being ten and eleven too often!

I always thought that her cover pictures were nice, especially the one from Kristy and the Snobs. I always liked her life, being involved in so many activities and all. It would have drove me crazy, but if I could handle it then it would have been fun. I always felt that she was just a slot-filler for whenever a member went away. She didn't have much of a personality and her robotic block-print writing gives more indication of that. Sorry if that is too much of a downer.

I wonder about Shannon. A lot of people will even say she's one of their fave sitters, and I don't see how that's possible as her character is barely developed throughout the series. I think her friendship with Kristy is pretty cool, though, given how different they are from one another. It's nice to see Kristy of all people having a friend other than a BSCer. I love in Kristy's Mystery Admirer how Shannon is dropping by and calling Kristy I've never really given much thought to her personality, though, other than that she seems to be much cooler than Kristy... like in BSC world, Stacey and Claud are clearly the coolest girls, followed by I would say Dawn. I imagined that Shannon was along the same level of coolness as Dawn.

Shannon is probably a "favorite" sitter because she wasn't developed enough to have any really negative qualities. For instance Kristy was too bossy and anal about everything, Claudia dressed like a moron half the time and it made no sense that she didn't have a learning disorder, Stacey could be a snobby biatch, Mary Anne was a passive-aggressive whiner, Dawn was an irritating self-righteous hippy, Jessi accused everyone of racism and Mallory bitched too much about her red hair, glasses, braces, large family, lack of sparkle sweatshirts etc.
Shannon on the other hand was just this reasonably attractive, intelligent 13 yr old girl with an actual life outside the club. I prefer reading about the others, flaws and all.

You nailed it, macca.
One thing I wondered about the associate members, especially in Shannon's case, if they're too busy to go to the meetings, how come they just happen to always be sitting by the phone during meeting times? Whenever the BSC need a filler, they just call Shannon or Logan, and they're always available. Never "hmm, guess they're not home. We're screwed."

haha yeah I was wondering how Shannon esp is ever available to take jobs, because they always make a big point of saying she is in sooo many clubs and has sooo many after-school activities. Maybe she wanted some random jobs here and there, but didn't want to have to commit her entire life and soul to Kristy and co.

^ I wouldn't have wanted to commit my entire life and soul either.

I've never really liked Shannon, seeing as (considering how little we get to see of her) she was generally portrayed as this perfect, ski jump-nosed overachiever. The fact that she actually had a life contributed to her feeling all a bit empty and distant, even in her special Shannon's Story narration. I prefer the more developed, annoying baby-sitters.

I liked Shannon's Story! She didn't seem perfect in that. Just an ordinary 13 year old... more ordinary than a lot of the BSC members, even.

^ Yeah, resorting to flunking your final just so you don't have to spend a vacation with your mom. Considering how much school seems to be to her, that act seemed kind of dramatic, just like how an average 13-year old girl thinks (seems to me).

I really liked Shannon in Babysitter's remember. I thought she seemed very "real" in her story. She wanted the new cool girl to be her friend but she didn't want to compromise herself.

And I can't believe there were no consequences - other than Shannon missing the trip, of course. But no one ever found out she'd failed on purpose.

I thought she would've told someone in the end! I wouldn't've been able to keep it a secret.

i liked shannon's story. shannon seemed like the only one with a truly unhappy homelife--it was quite dramatic.
