Bsc refreshment stands usually sell lemonade plus cookies/brownies/popcorn, so i guess it was just an expansion of their repetoire.
Hmm, if claudia has to hide junk food in her room, wouldn't her parents notice a)the junk food paintings and b)the junk food refreshment stand?

She told them it was being used for art -- not for eating.

^ ;D I thought Claudia was really ungrateful to the BSC when they helped her organize her art show in Genius of Elm Street. They were spending their time helping her clean the garage and make the invitations and she was put out because they didn't seem happy about it....

^I agree that it is kind of ungrateful and childish, but I shouldn't judge because I've had that sort of reaction to certain things before Sometimes I'll feel bad and pout if the person is complaining a lot even if it is something they want to do or care about doing; I'll sometimes take it as them being unhappy which makes me unhappy. Dunno if that makes any sense , but I can see why Claudia might have reacted that way.

^ I always thought that Claudia was the sitter that understood people and was in tune with people the least and was the least sensitive towards what other people may be feeling or what their perspective may be, etc. out of all of them. I think the series tried to highlight this, in my opinion. I'm sorry if this offends anyone. I mean, no one came to her birthday party, she thought that it was ok to snoop instead of backing her best friend up in the ring-episode, why she was trying to push art on the charges when Mary Anne already had them playing a game, etc. I can't think of anymore. And I think that's why art is such a perfect passion for her. So, in this case, I don't have anything to back it up but I think that it didn't really register to her how the others were feeling. And the idea that she was put out by them not being happy about helping her out reminds me of the time when she expected the others to just believe her about not cheating on that Math test. I apologize for this being poorly explained. And I apologize if I've already said this like a million times. I don't remember what I've said in the past. ;D

So many outfits that every Chapter Two, the girls remark in awe "I don't think I've ever seen Claud wear the same thing twice!" I always took that to mean that Claud was so "creative" that she never used the same combination twice, and just re-used the clothes she had in new and different ways. For instance, the oversized men's shirts seemed to come up a lot, just in stranger and stranger configurations. I just read SS 11 last night, and I liked Claudia's chapters a lot. She's definitely one of my least favorites to read usually, but I really enjoyed that section. I felt so bad for her. She worked so hard, and the teacher just didn't get it. But go Mimi for telling the teacher what for!!! That's probably up there in one of my favorite BSC moments now.

I understand what you're saying, Mcpon, and agree. I think Claudia was just one of the least perceptive in general. ;D

^ ;D I thought Claudia was really ungrateful to the BSC when they helped her organize her art show in Genius of Elm Street. They were spending their time helping her clean the garage and make the invitations and she was put out because they didn't seem happy about it.... Claudia could be kind of mindlessly selfish a lot of the time. It got on my nerves, but it was pretty understandable thirteen-year-old behavior...which is rare in the series. Claudia actually seemed the most like a teenager of the sitters - the rest were all more like mini-adults. I kind of feel her pain there, though, because I hate when people say they'll help me with something and then act like I'm putting them out and they really don't want to be doing it...sheesh, why'd you agree to it, then?! Most of the time it's not that I need your help, it's just more fun to do things with help than alone...but it's more fun to do things alone than with someone who makes it clear that they don't want to be there. I can't remember how the BSC acted in this book, though, haven't read it in a while, so I don't know if Claudia was being unreasonable in her demands...

When we were doing the "Worst Claudia Book" over at missbscpagent, I realized that I actually really like Claudia books. I don't really have a lot in common with Claudia, but I think I like her books -- or at least her in her books -- a lot. There weren't any that stuck out to me as "this is the worst book ever". I thought that was kind of interesting.
