Since there's a Favorite BSC Dad thread(Which liss31d made),I made this thread. It's the moms' turn!!! So,who's your favorite BSC mom? And why? Credits to aln and greer for helping me with the names. They've helped me a lot. I already know Mrs.Thomas,Mrs. Mcgill,Mrs.Spier and Mrs.Spier's names of course. ;D

I was going to put down Mrs McGill, but then I decided on Alma Spier. I know she doesn't make any appearances in the series but from what I've heard about her from the other characters and because of that beautiful letter she wrote to Mary Anne in MA and the Secret in the Attic, she sounds like she would have made a wonderful mum...

Anyone who can raise 8 decent, loving children without going crazy is a good mom in my book! It is because of Mr. and Mrs. Pike that I want to adopt 8 children when I get married. Of course most of the other mothers are great to. I just always loved reading about Mrs. Pike with her children.

^Why adopt? It's better to have your own children. You can name your first baby,if she's a girl,Mallory.

^For some reason, I have ALWAYS wanted to adopt. I have never in my life had any desire to have my own children. It may have a lot to do with the fact that I am adopted myself. My dad was adopted and so was his brother and his biological family as well. I have always just wanted to love a child that wouldn't be loved otherwise.

^ That's so nice. ;D I would want to adopt, too, since there are so many kids that need loving homes.... And some people are not able to have children of their "own" or do not want to for various medical reasons. Great topic that I've been going to start for months but keep forgetting. ;D I'll have to think more before voting, though. ;D

There are so many children who don't have loving parents, and if someone wants to take those kids, love them as their own, and treat them as their own, it is not better to have your own kids. Not everyone can have their own children -- are you saying that they aren't as good as natural parents? Because plenty of biological parents abuse their children. Plenty of adoptive parents don't. I think it's better for children to be wanted -- no matter who raises and parents them. Biology is just one part of having kids. Furthermore -- there are more then enough people in this world without ignorantly bringing more in. No one should be discouraged from adoption.

There are so many children in the world who need good homes and people to love them.

Agreed, Penny. And that's really sweet, sarish! Maureen is the mom I most enjoy reading about, but Alma sounded like a great person, and I also really like Mrs. Ramsey and Mrs. Pike. This is tough.

I think Mrs Ramsey seems like a good mom, but I enjoy reading about Sharon and Maureen.

I put Mrs. Kishi. I like reading about her. I think Maureen seems kind of moody sometimes, but she's my second favorite.

I agree with all of this and really encourage/support adoption. I wish more girls would choose to give their babies up (but this is another topic that I won't get into ;D) Anyway, this is a hard vote for me since I really like almost all of the moms. I love Stacey and her mom's relationship in later books but they don't seem very close in early books. I do like Mrs. Kishi but she seems a bit colder than my own mom (maybe that's not the right word, though. ;D) Also like Mrs. Ramsey a lot and Mrs. Kilbourne but decided on Mrs. Pike because I really like reading about her and Mal in Hates Boys and Gym and how she "has a talk" with Mr. Pike in Poor Mal and that she's a stay at home mom. If I ever did have kids, I would want to be a stay at home mom (my mom was and I'm so thankful for that ;D) but would just have 1 kid instead of 8. ;D But again, this is another topic.... ;D

I put Mrs. Kishi, although I really had to force myself to pick one. (I like to think she secretly knows about the Nancy Drew books and is using reverse psychology to get Claud to read SOMETHING by banning them. I also think they're way more supportive of her art habits than Claud seems to think.)
I find it interesting that the moms seem a lot less important to the girls than the dads do. Obvs Richard plays a bigger role than Alma did in MA's life, but even for all the other girls. The Kristy-Watson dynamic seems to take on a larger role than her and her mother; she sort of takes for granted that her mother is just there. Dawn misses her dad so much that she moves all the way across the country. (She says she misses her mom in the CA books, but she doesn't do anything about it.) Abby seems to have been very close with her dad and not so much with her mom. Stacey has the whole Dad works too much drama.
I don't know where I'm going with this. It's just odd that I was really surprised to see a thread about BSC moms, but the one about dads seemed really natural.

I liked Kristy's relationship with her mother in Kristy's Great Idea.
