^The weird part about the BSC meaning leggings, though, is that Mary Anne says that Richard called her sweater-and-leggings ensemble revealing. How much less revealing than a gigantic sweater and a pair of -- admittedly form-fitting -- pants can you get? I mean, at least tights-as-in-pantyhose have the potential to be sheer, which is still weird. He used to force her to wear skirts, which I imagined as being as long as a decently 80s oversized sweater. It makes no sense! Our confusion was legitimate

*raises hand* If it was wintertime and they were wearing an "enormous, oversized" sweater, tights, socks, and sneakers, I thought their bottom half must have been gigundoly cold. Growing up I only knew tights as thin, sheer stockings. Laughed and laughed at this

The BSC are responsible for girls going out half dressed. Shame on them! Hee.
I always (still) have trouble figuring out how all their clothing fit together, especially when they have layers upon layers. Like when Claudia wears an untucked oversized men's dress shirt...and suspenders. Now, do the suspenders go over the shirt or under??

I always imagined she had on like a t-shirt/turtleneck or something with the suspenders and then an unbuttoned man's shirt over the whole thing. It was never described like that, but that was the only way it made sense to me.

I always thought tights meant tights, as in the thin things you wore under skirts or dresses. I was always a little puzzled about Mary Anne's famous outfit...I couldn't believe she'd even WANT to wear only tights without a skirt or something! I never tried to wear anything like that, but I DID put a sweatshirt over a dress and leggings under it. I'm pretty sure I got that from the BSC, but I don't really remember. My best friend did the same thing.

OMG! I just remembered this totally BSC-ish (kinda sorta) outfit I tried wearing once. I was probably about 9. My mom bought me these short, sheer tights, they like went to your knee. They had lace on the bottoms of them. They were CLEARLY to wear under skirts (weird, I know) because they were totally see through, but I was like umm... not cool enough for me! So I wore them with this GIANT gray sweatshirt, that was BAGGY, but NOT LONG ENOUGH... so it barely covered my butt and all I had under it was short lacy see thru tights... IDK just mentioning tights and baggy shirts made me think of that. I also crimped the CRAP out of my hair and it was all poofy and wow, I thought I looked awesome.
Anyway, as for their tights and leggings, I now think they are using the word tights FOR leggings. like not actual tights with shirts, like I tried. I practically lived in leggings (and black stir-ups) and big shirts as a kid :/

I had a few BSC outfits as well...
[whispers] there was one, lycra black leggings, with an bright pink off-the-shoulder oversized t-shirt of my mums. I had a thick elastic belt which I wore over the shirt to make it look like a mini-dress. Ugh.
Another shocker was an oversized tropical design shirt, similar I suppose to Claudia's vegetable shirt. I wore that over a yellow tank top with black culottes (sp?)
OH! And another BSC-like item of clothing I had was blue leggings with yellow moon and sun designs all over them. OMG I loved them! Thought they were so dibbly fresh!
I also had a purple sweatshirt which I designed with those puff paint things. And I had a t-shirt with sparkly crap all over it because Mallory made me feel as if that was the coolest. I'd never even realised they were controversial or daring before the BSC.
In Hello Mallory, when they described Mallory's red "jumper" I thought they were referred to a sweater as that's what we call them in Australia. The "jumper" would be a pinafore dress. So of course I was confused about how she wore it with tights, but I figured I'd give it a try. I wore my red tights that I usually wore with the school uniform. Then I put an oversized white SWEATER over it. That was the sad day in which my mother humiliated me and I felt like a total loser.
WTF was I thinking?!?

I'd like to add DayGlo to the list since Claudia was especially fond of it early in the series. And since I'm also guilty of wearing it. I had I think a green dayglo t-shirt i paired with denim shorts . I think I felt like more of a Stacey when it came to style, my favorite outfit in second grade was a NYC sweatshirt and blue leggings. I also had a sweater with scottie dogs on it, which I think either Stacey or Mary Anne had.

Looking back, it seems weird that Stacey had so many New York sweatshirts and tees. No self-respecting New Yorker wears that stuff!

^ I thought MA had those. She was obsessed with NY.

I think Stacey just wore Hard Rock Cafe tshirts. Sooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last week my dad asked me if I wanted to go to the one in NYC and I was like, are you kidding me? But it is the BSC's favorite place in New York, so maybe I should have gone there anyway.

Stacey does have some New York clothing, but I don't remember which book mentions it. I also thought it was weird, since the I<3NY stuff is so touristy. We should probably just chalk it up there with the "I'm awesome" and "You're looking at perfection" category. I think she did resist the HRC shirt initially, but eventually got one.

^ I guess I never thought anything of it. Being in Australia, the prospect of going to NYC was always a major deal. But it's one place where I'd eventually like to travel, not least because of all the BSC experiences! I'd love to see the places they went to.
I guess my outlook is different because, well, if I ever visited NYC it'd only be as a tourist - and in the truest sense of the word!

I also had a sweater with scottie dogs on it, which I think either Stacey or Mary Anne had. Actually, it was Kristy. Nannie gave the sweater to her in "Kristy's Big Day."

Stacey's wearing a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt on the cover of one of the books, isn't she?
