That can't be comfortable! And how do your shoes fit with all that extra material? XD Couldn't you just achieve the same look with multiple leg warmers? Those were popular in the 80s but it felt like Jessi was the only one who wore them because she was a ballerina. My guess is that they had some oversized shoes to go with it. I can't see how it would work otherwise. I feel like I would love this in winter because I hate the feeling of cold feet, but I can't imagine enduring it any other time of year lol. I think in one book either Stacey or Claud wore layered socks in summer and I thought they were absolutely crazy! I know the comment earlier was old, but I love love love the idea of a blog with drawings of BSC outfits. I remember when Claudia did it in the summer! That's ridiculous, she must have been so hot. I think she wore them with bike shorts too. There used to be the What Claudia Wore blog but it hasn't been updated in years.

This isn't something that you have to blindly imagine. You can put three socks on your feet and feel how it is. It's like a hug, lol. I felt like I had no arch, but it didn't change my shoe size.

I used to layer socks on Girl Scout campouts in the fall and I just remember having to squeeze into shoes. Then again, those were thick thermal socks, I don't think Claudia was wearing those

Huh. I think I've only layered a couple pairs at home (but a regular pair and then a thick, fuzzy pair in winter when I'm at home. It's very comfortable). I thought it wouldn't be comfortable at all with shoes. Then again, Stacey and Claudia don't always worry about comfort. Despite this, I always sort of wanted to try the layered ice cream socks, but didn't have any ones that would look interesting enough.

I am loving this thread. I always love it when the outfits of the BSC members are described. Does anyone remember how towards the end of the series Stacey just wore all black (and I think it's mentioned that's also her favorite color, though I'm also pretty sure pink is mentioned as her favorite color...or maybe it's navy blue). That's a far cry from the outfit she wears in the first book with the number 10s all over it.
I'm reading "Stacey's Big Crush" and she mentions having white canvas eyelet sneakers with lace shoelaces...what? Lace shoelaces? WTF? I've never heard of that. I remember her dog and bone earrings; I remember wanting a pair like that, but never found any. I do have a star and moon earring...those are my only (purposely) mismatched earrings. I had to laugh when I was reading about butterfly clips a few pages back. I totally remember doing that too, but I think I probably only did it two or three times in my life just because it took forever to put all those tiny butterfly clips in my hair! But I thought it looked so cool.

^ Stacey always decorated her room in blue and white so I imagine that those are her favorite colors. It's never mentioned which shade of blue it is though.

I picture something like these shoes and laces. Their fashions sounded odd in text but were usually pretty easy to replicate.

I forgot her room was blue and white. I'm pretty sure there's a BSC member whose favorite color is pink, but now I can't remember who it is...not Mary Anne or Kristy, I know that. I actually really like those Keds, but I think I'll stick with the regular laces. Lace laces (heh) seems like something you would use at a wedding if you wanted to wear (very!) comfortable shoes down the aisle.

Exactly, lace is delicate. It's not meant to hold together a kids shoe and it would probably fall apart, even though it looks really pretty in that picture. The bottom shoes look cute and wearable.

I had shoelaces similar to lace on some orange sneakers when I was little. It was a thin, shimmery fabric. The shoes also had a shimmer element to them. Ugh, amazing. I often think about the cute things I had long ago that I would want now…like this pink holographic fanny pack with lipsticks printed on it.
Stacey’s fave colors were indeed blue and white. It’s mentioned in her portrait and in Welcome Back, Stacey (her room colors). I thought her later series head to toe black was cool, but did miss her more colorful outfits. I guess the writers felt Claud took care of that.
I remember the butterfly clip discussion we had back then and it didn’t occur to me that the reference was to those teeny tiny clips. I used to have a pair of butterfly barrettes that clipped into my hair and the butterfly was attached and kind of “springy.” I thought that’s what butterfly clips were as a kid until I saw them in magazines/TV.
Anyway, long story short, my fashion was way cooler when I was 8

I've definitely seen lace laces! My friend wore sneakers to her wedding and laced them with ribbon.
Like I've mentioned before Stacey went from like fun 80s teen looks in the early books to like neutrals later on. Like her entire wardrobe was Banana Republic and the Gap. I remember in the first book Kristy says Stacey is wearing pink plastic shoes and I could never picture what she meant. Did she mean jellies?

I hope she was wearing big, ugly Crocs.

In Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise, Stacey wears pink jellies with lacy white anklets. And I know jellies were popular when the book came out but lacy white anklets makes me think little girl because I wore those when I was a kid (which was during the same time period). Were lacy socks as popular as push-down socks for teens?

I think it’s more of a Lolita vibe when non-kids wear the little lacy socks. Evan Rachel Wood dressed like that while she was dating Marilyn Manson.
