I wouldn't want any girls in my room if I were Claudia - I'd be ashamed of the mess.

Me too! I am really overly clean and organized. I hate it when something in my room gets dirty.

Atichock (?)- Why would anyone want to eat this appalling looking thing. It looks like a green pine cone. I actually love artichokes. They are yummy.

Dumb question, but what do artichokes and avocados taste like? I've never had either but they actually look good. Surprisingly, a lot of the food in Dawn on the Coast sounded good - especially the broccoli pizza (I love broccoli) and the Mexican food and fish dinner that she ate in CA. Usually I'm not into Dawn's "health food" but this sounded pretty good. Some of the food in this book sounded gross, though. Especially the stuff on the plane and at the Pike house.

I love broccoli on pizza! Also pineapple. Reading BSC made me try pineapple pizza and now it's my favorite kind.

Pineapple pizza is pretty good. For some reason a lot of Dawn's food sounds good to me, maybe it's the way its described.

Avocados taste like heaven. Guacamole can be a good first way to experience them, just mash one up with a little bit of fresh lemon or lime juice and some minced garlic or spices or whatever you like. It's especially good chilled I think. Otherwise, just cutting them into slices with a little salt of top is really good too. Artichokes taste really good dipped in melted butter. The rest is OK but the heart is the best part. Artichoke hearts in a jar just never taste as good as the heart of a fresh artichoke though.

Thanks Dawnomite. Not a big guacamole fan so I might not like avocados but might have to try them the way you suggest. Both sound pretty good - so does pineapple on pizza Another food mention that I liked was the Hawaiian food in Aloha Baby-sitters. I was also watching Hawaii on the travel channel and they showed similar stuff. (Can you tell that I'm trying to "warm myself up"

I LOVE pineapple pizza! My favorite is pineapple, onions, and peppers. Mmmmm When did the BSC mention pineapple pizza? I always found it odd they got pizzas with EVERYTHING on them (sans anchovies!) or they'd get like, a mushroom and onion pizza.

Eww, warm pineapple is gross! I'll take a cheese/cheese mushroom pizza anyday, but I'd gladly turn down anything with warm pineapple (/warm apple/warm tomatoes)

I like pineapple pizza. I don't remember the Hawaiian food in Aloha, Baby-sitters! so I think I am going to have to look for all the mentions of food in that book. Yum.

Books with even better descriptions of food are the Boxcar Children books. They are always having some huge, good sounding (to me at least) meals - especially breakfasts - and going out for things like ice cream. There are actually whole books that have the mysteries centered around the food (Ice Cream Mystery). Most of them avoid descriptions that gross me out like Claudia's stashed junk and the foods seem more "common," which makes them appeal more to me (no snacks of "pound cake and grapes" ). Don't know why I'm bringing it up here but keep making this comparison in my mind and felt the need to share (just in case anyone wants a tasty breakfast mention - pecan pancakes in #66 The Panther Mystery is what I just read about )

I remember Stacey, Robert, and Robert's friends ordering it in Stacey vs. the BSC.

To combine the conversation, I remember reading a Boxcar mystery about a pizza place.

MMmmmm. I love guacamole. I agree Dawnomite. Artichoke hearts are the best part. I like them from the jar, but fresh is always better.I like pineapple pizza also. We usually add Canadian bacon/ham to it. I love mushrooms on pizza too. That would be my most favorite kind. I guess I just like some of the strange foods. LOL.
