Karen's Magic Garden had some really great food descriptions of the stuff they eat at the family reunion and their seafood and clambakes in Maine. I'm not a big seafood fan usually but this book evne made me want to try clams ;D Mmm, I loved the food descriptions in Karen's Magic Garden too, especially when they all go out to eat at that restaurant. I wanted to try the clams too . I imagined the french fries that they ate were super-salty, my favorite and I also craved the bread pudding that they had for dessert- so good! This thread is really making me hungry lol ;D.

I don't like most seafood, but sometimes even foods I don't like sound good when I read about them in books, so I'll have to check out the food descriptions in this one.

^ I don't like seafood either but didn't mind it in this book. Also, there was enough other good stuff that I could just skim over the seafood. I think this is one of the best food description books. ;D

The best food description is in Stacey's Lie, when Stacey and Claudia eat at the seafood restaurant at Fire Island. I really craved lobster! I am curious about what lobster thermindor is, but I must try it someday.

Lobster thermidor is made by take a live lobster, boiling it, removing the insides, cooking the meat in a sherry cream sauce, then restuffing the lobster and serving it. I haven't liked shellfish since I worked at Red Lobster during a fit of early adult rebellion, so it's not really my thing. It's hard to make correctly, and most restaurants don't even serve it. We didn't have it at Red Lobster, but that's not surprising. (yuck to all chains).
Some people really like it, and others think the sauce is weird. It's probably something everyone should try though. Even if it does involve killing a lobster.

I've never had lobster but am not a big seafood fan so not sure I would like it. I just read Dawn and the Older Boy and like the grilled cheese sandwich description. ;D Those are always favorites of mine.

I had lobster when I went to Maine (my mom and I split it for lunch) but I didn't like it all that much. It just wasn't all that it was cracked up to be; it was much too light and tasted extremely fishy.

I like the taste of crab meat better than lobster.

^I like that, too and I think shrimp is better. I had lobster on a cruise and once at a seafood restaurant, and I was like "this is it?" To me, it tastes slightly like shrimp, but less of a shrimp taste. Too light.

I've never tried shrimp but have always wanted to. Maybe I'll have to go to Red Lobster for the first time ever and "live dangerously" and try shrimp and lobster. ;D

I've been trying to read the series chronologically according to publication date (I don't have most of the LS's so this is kind of difficult), and one thing that's been driving me absolutely crazy is the way they describe food. Why is it that Dawn and Sharon's food is so weird and gross and Mary Anne likes "normal" food. I know these were written before people in the US realized how dangerous their food was, but I still take offense every time I see that. 90% of the time, Dawn's "Weird" food sounds a hell of a lot better then whatever Mary Anne and Claudia are eating. I don't think it's that unusual, either.
Come to think about it, what's the deal with the food anyway? Is this a normal part of children's books -- describing what people eat? Why?
And what ever happened to Jessi also eating healthy? Did the Ghostwriters get bored with that and decide that she works out enough that she can just binge out on mallomars (Thanks board, for telling me what they are!), and not gain a pound? Weird!

I've never liked the texture of shrimp.

^ The texture does look kind of strange and crunchy. That makes me want to try it, though, to see if it tastes how it looks. ;D
