^ Me neither. ;D It sounds and looks gross to me. My dad even brought some home from one of the guys he works with but I said no way. I don't even really know what it is, though, I guess. What is it? What does it taste like?

It's made out of soy or bean curd. It tends to taste like whatever it's cooked with (it absorbs flavor), and has a nice light texture. There are different kinds -- hard, soft, etc, which all have a different consistency, and are used for different things. Ex. - I use the softer for smoothies, and the firm/ extra firm in salads/pasta dishes. I think it's pretty good, if cooked correctly, but I can see why people don't like it. Most people who think it's gross either have had it prepared incorrectly, or had it plain.
I've also had agadashi tofu at restaurants, which is deep fried tofu, dipped into a sauce. It's bad for you, but it tastes pretty good.
My friend says it's actually made like cheese -- only out of soy milk. *shrug* I like it.

my friend posted a pic of mallomars on his livejournal the other day and i thought of claud since i'm from the northeast i was always familiar with the foods they eat in the bsc. i actually had tofu for dinner tonight. i'm not a vegetarian (anymore) either... i just like tofu. i buy it prepared in the supermarket produce aisle and then just heat it up in a frying pan.

Tofu is actually sounding not too bad - not at all like I imagine (which is kind of tasting like sticks if that makes sense. ;D Not sure where I got that from, though....) What exactly are Ring Dings? I've never heard of them other than in BSC.

The texture just doesn't look appealing to me.

The texture is basically like meat-texture if it's firm tofu. Ring-dings are chocolate-covered chocolate cakes with a creme center. I want one right now!

In Michigan, Hostess sells a similar product to Ring Dings -- Ding Dongs or King Dongs depending. I had a roommate from Philly who would have Drake's Ring Dings and Tasty Cakes airmailed in. It was the strangest thing... But they did taste slightly better.

I'm from South Jersey, and would occasionally take (or my folks would send) Kandy Kakes to college in Missouri to share with my friends and suitemates.

I always imagined Ring Dings as being potato chip type things shaped like rings. I always got them confused with the Hula Hoops Claudia was described as having in her room, too...but I'm not sure if that was just in the British version (and if so, what their American counterpart was). Were the Maltesers Claudia draws in The Genuis of Elm Street something like Milk Duds in the American version? (Okay, not entirely sure what Milk Duds are, either...)
