I don't remember that scene (was it in Little Sister?) but it does seem silly. There are plenty of times when it doesn't make sense for siblings to share everything. I think it would be a lot more important for Karen to have those independent spaces where she could have some autonomy and choose her company herself. As long as she's still friendly and shares other things with David Michael and the rest of the family, I feel like this is pretty harmless. Yes, it was in the Super Special, Karen's Mystery.

I personally think that Meghan Lahey did a better job of portraying the character of Mary Anne, even though she didn’t look anything like Mary Anne. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or just responding to the post but I actually like Mary Anne more in the tv show than the books. I'm not a big fan of hers in many of the books, especially because her kind nature seems more talked about than actually shown. However in the tv show, she seems genuinely sweet.

I don’t know why I didn’t see this. Movie Kristy I did not like, nothing about her seemed to really fit the character. Didn’t look like her and didn’t act like her. Something about movie MA I didn’t really like for some reason. Maybe because she and Kristy were supposed to be similar looking and those two definitely did not. Can you be more specific...? It doesn't really tell us anything when you say vague things like for some reason, but don't name what the reason is. One thing that I did disagree on with the movie Mary Anne is that they forgot the bangs book canon Mary Anne always had. But I still think other than that, Rachel Leigh Cook made a great Mary Anne right down to her big brown eyes...much better than Megan Lahey. I think it’s because I didn’t really like Rachel Leigh cook but it could just be me.

^ You don't need a reason! It's fine to prefer one interpretation of a character over another

i think it's really out of character for janine to hide candy. of course phantom phone calls was so early in the series that janine wasn't so stuffy, but in the mystery at claudia's house we see that janine has no experience lying to her parents. also, she's smart enough that she would know how gross junk food is. Even a genius is entitled to have a guilty pleasure..wouldn't make her less smart, and the authors exaggerated her intelligence. Not to mention not-so-healthy stuff is OKAY in moderation unless a doctor says it is TOTALLY forbidden. Anyway, mine for today is I understood Shannon's frustration with her mom in Shannon's Story and I actually LIKE the idea of a mature Alan Gray.

I don’t think intelligence has anything to do with what your tastebuds like! Haha. Actually, the nursing profession in the US has a high obesity rate, and you’d think they would “know better”.

Mallory and sometimes,Jessi act more mature than most of the older BSC members.

I also didn't like the Kristy is a lesbian idea. It's too grounded in stereotypical behavior of how "A girl should act" same with Stacey seeming to be thought of as sexually active. I just don't like the stereotypes people associate that being a tomboy, kind of a slob, not liking boys a lot, means must be a lesbian and liking boys a lot, going out all the time with boys, thinking about boys, juggling multiple boys, fashion obsessed/makeup obsessed makes you loose. Lesbians couldn't possibly act like how Stacey acts and someone who is as sports crazy couldn't possibly be allowed to boys and fashion. The whole idea that "one has to act and preform in a way that fit a stereotype or it invalidates their image" is just a huge thing that's always annoyed me. This whole explanation in itsself is also an unpopular opinion

another big unpopular thing is (I don't know how unpopular this is though here) is that I think Claudia is spoiled and lazy. I couldn't get behind her spoiled rebellion of neglecting her studies. It seems like she willfully doesn't want to be her family in any way shape or form so she purposely neglects studies. I also find any time her "art" is praised as annoying because it doesn't sound so "artistic" and "amazing" to paint junk food and her constant junk food eating and hiding her Nancy Drew books is pretty annoying too. I'm quite surprised she's allowed her own phone and to do the BSC if she was so neglectful of her school work. I just find her character so annoying as I re-read the books. I would much rather like if she actually tried hard and just couldn't measure up. But her insistent claims "i can't get into the work, I find it boring, I like so many other things other than school" was just frustrating.

One of my unpopular opinions is that I never mind how many times the series references The Wizard of Oz because I love Oz, too. The only Oz reference that bothered me was in Karen's Sleepover when she said that The Wizard of Oz was a scary movie... um, it isn't. Even if you're seven. They should've watched Return to Oz as their scary sleepover movie, as it is composed largely of nightmare fuel. I thought it was boring and I guess I was like Pamela thinking it was silly.
But here's something that happened to me recently: At my job one of my coworkers told me that she hated The Wizard of Oz because it's scary and it's still scary to her now even as she's in her fifties.
I thought it was interesting because a lot of my coworkers who are older find the slightest things scary and young kids do not (I'm a teacher) and it strikes me as interesting of how kids and even my generation don't quite scare easy and are a little more tougher than people who are in their 40s and above and how they find things that aren't quite scary as scary.
I of course was reminded of the scene in BSC and how it was deemed "Scary movie" and all! XD

By the end of the series the Wizard of Oz references would make me laugh because they were often so randomly and awkwardly thrown in there. I don't remember ever being afraid of the movie (I'm pretty sure I was watching R rated stuff by the time I was Karen's age), but I guess it could be scary-ish to the meeker kind (which Karen wasn't). The monkeys are creepy anyway. I think the most upsetting part for me was always when Uncle Henry pulled Toto out of Dorothy's arms and gave him to Miss Gulch to take away. That was cold, Henry. I recently had a moment where one of the teachers I work with said she hates Wizard of Oz because it was scary when she was a kid and she still doesn't like it.I guess perhaps given the time frame of this series maybe people then aren't as fearless as people now. I have noticed she isn't the only person who is "shy" when it comes to scary movies !

IMO Claudia's dumbness/lack of effort got pretty old, overdone and unappealing quickly and that happened within the Ann Martin-books; some of the ghost writers presented it more toned down, some more overdone. Stacey, at least in a lot of moments if not generally, actually does seem pretty sophisticated and mature (although at other times also immature). Kristy's ideas are a mixed bag, some really good ones but one of the worst type of plots is when she organizes a competition for the kids, never remembering how overly-competitive they are. Yes! I didn't like Claudia's spoiled brat behavior with the whole purposefully seeming to rebel against school because her family was all scholarly. i thought she was spoiled, bratty and willful. I also didn't think that her whole art was anything special. I'm currently reading all the replies here to see if others find Claudia's behavior annoying! I posted here about it a few replies up!
