Reading about Louie was so sad. It was probably for the best that Louie was put to sleep, so that he wouldn't suffer any longer. It was nice of Shannon to give David Michael the puppy since it was a purebreed and could've been sold for a lot of money. And as for the pranks that Shannon and Kristy played on each other, I wish we saw the conversation that Mrs. Papadakis had with Shannon about the prank she played. That one was too far.

That's definite the best Kristy book ever written. I love the introduction of Shannon & Shannon, but I'm sad about Louie's passing.

This was okay book. On the boring side. Sad, when Louie died. I can't imagine my dog, Leia being put to sleep. I hope be years before, I have to do something like that.
What I don't get about Kristy is she didn't smell from inside of Delany's house. Smoke can travels long ways. When Shannon trick her. That was mean trick, what Shannon did to Kristy. Love the diaper prank. So funny.

This is one of my favourite Kristy books! I love the introduction of the Delaneys and the Kilbournes. I liked the babysitting chapters in this book but could have done without the do-gooder Perkins chapter. Boring! One scene that I forgot about was when Shannon shows up at the Delaney's with the pizza box in hand, reaches in and grabs a piece and says to Kristy something along the lines of, "how would you like pizza in your face?" That was shocking to me. That's SO BITCHY! As was the fire fake out.
Who's side are you in in this book? Team Kristy or Team Shannon?

^ Both and neither. I don't think either one was particularly at fault; they were sort of mutually involved in their prank war, and I don't exactly hate either character on principle. I guess you could argue that Shannon started it since she was kind of mean to Kristy from the beginning, but knowing what was behind that thanks to SS#11 makes a difference.

^ I agree with you; I feel the same way. I guess that was the point? Ann made sure that they both pulled pranks on each other, called each other names, and basically acted childish. Although I like Shannon, and actually like her more than some of the regular sitters - even though I do like ALL of the sitters for their own reasons - she is actually kind of a b*tch underneath. After reading this, and if you read Shannon's Story, you can see more into it. Like not going to Paris because her Mom was going? Kinda snooty.

Oh man, still tears eyed at this one. Luckily, and feel free to gag cat haters, my little Faust chose the saddest part to show his cute little snout in my face and lick the end of my nose!
I must say, I will stick with what I said earlier on this thread. I can't stand Karen in this book! Who invites neighbors who didn't know the pet to the funeral!!! This should have been a time for the family. I would have politely decline if I had been Shannon.

This book still makes me cry to this day. I know how hard it is to have to make a decision like that for a pet that is suffering.

^ I shouldn't have stopped into this thread. I'm dog-sitting for some clients who have three dogs, one of whom is very elderly. I REALLY hope she holds on until this job is over!

^ I've had the same feelings/experiences. When I was in high-school, my family used to cat sit for a friend of the family. Mess was SO OLD, like probably over 20, and we always worried something would happen to her in our care. The owners even talked to us about that because they had the same thoughts. Thankfully, nothing ever happened. She was still around when I was in university and because I lived with my Nana and Popa - who eventually went into nursing homes - I lost track with the family who had Mess. She's probably not around now but I bet she lived way past 20 years.

The only reason I skimmed through this was in the hope of being proven wrong about something. Sadly, I was not. Not one BSC member (to our knowledge) called or offered Kristy any support. I realize they didn't know about Louie until the after the fact (probably back at school on Monday) but there should have been some teeny moment where any of them gave Kristy a hug, smile, not, anything as a show of friendship. I was really disappointed by that.
Wiggirl, you know I dislike cats immensely. That doesn't mean I ever wish them any harm. I wish them as I do all creatures the best just in cats case far away from me! Sweet Faust moment. I'm glad he is doing better.

I think if you don't have pets you don't always fully "get" people who do have them. Some people have a "it's just a pet/animal" mentality that they wouldn't have when, for example, Mimi died. (Of course that's not true for all non-pet people.) It just so happened that the other club members at the time were all the non-pet people, and Mary Anne had just gotten Tigger and wasn't portrayed as overly involved with him yet.

^I can see your point. I clearly remember at least one staff member at the vet office up the street looking shocked at how upset I was when Champ died. So, I guess if someone who works with animals can feel that way, it'd make sense that young teens (without pets) would, too. In this case, the reason I felt badly wasn't even necessarily (at least all) about Louie but Kristy, the girls' supposed friend. It would have been very nice had any of them offered her a kind word or even remind her that they cared, that's all.
On the Mimi front, since my own Grandma was the person I will always consider to have been my mom, I can relate to how devastated Claudia felt about Mimi though my own situation was very different.

Ew. Anyone who acts like that in a vet clinic is in the wrong profession!

Thanks, I think so, too! They probably thought I was "too old" to be that upset and/or that I had time before bringing him into the vet's to say goodbye. Whatever, it certainly did not help me any.
