Okay so I am looking at this book and their relationship in a different light now as I am horrible at relationships! I don't communicate and I expect my other half to read my mind, and when he doesn't it pisses me off and we fight or don't speak. We are working on it but to my point......
I feel bad for Logan because I sort of see a lot of this as MA's fault (and not just because I hate her!). She doesn't tell him what she wants or talk to him. He is probably just acting as he always has because she was a shy timid mouse who wanted a rescuer in a man. Now she has changed and he obviously sensed it b/c he is trying to overcompensate by doing all these romantic things that he thinks she would like b/c he doesn't know what is wrong. He clearly knows that something is wrong though. Shame on MA for not talking to him about why she needed a break away from him or just talking with him about how she was feeling. The poor guy never knew what hit him!
I must admit, this may be coming from my personal experiences as of late with my alienation of my BF who is baffled, but I do feel bad for Logan.

^I think you said that very well, Wiggirl. Logan's more in-your-face character did come out of no where in this book, at least when he and Mary Anne were at the park. I also did not like how he kept haggling her at the Prezziosos'. Otherwise, I thought he seemed like Logan: a sweet guy, and imo, quite the catch, especially at 13! I will also say, I think he should have asked Mary Anne what was going on. To be fair, as you said, Mary Anne should have wanted Logan to understand so they could work on their relationship. Instead it was like she did expect him to be a mind reader. When he wasn't, she got mad. I think this is another example of how us getting to read about MA/Dr. Reese would have been awesome. That's also assuming we got to read about MA's uneasiness earlier and for a longer period of time than just a hint before this book and slightly after.

It definitely seemed to come out of nowhere! You are right though he should've asked, she should've talked. I guess when you are 13 though you just bolt!

Maybe what made it seem odder was that (for the most part) until this point MA and Logan did not often act like typical 13 year olds. Well, MA did more than Logan. I am really disliking MA much more on this zillionth re-read around in case you can't tell. The truth is until these boards got me thinking and (re-reading) I used to assume what we were supposed to think was true about MA, that she was quiet, sweet, a good friend, etc, really was the person she was. Now, I am understanding how that is not always the case.

you guys have a point. i've never looked at it this way. it's so easy to jump on logan for not understanding, but MA really wasn't being very fair to him either. i agree that his pushiness was very OOC, but the way she suddenly resented that about him was OOC too.

Bwahahaha. I just started this book again now, and I'm already only a few pages into it and something made burst out laughing.
Mary Anne is introducing herself and she says, "Lets see. I have brown hair, brown eyes, and a boyfriend!" She's really getting down to the point, bwahaha, as if nothing else matters but the boyfriend thing.

Reading this again and noticed something...David Michael writes an anonymous valentine to a boy in his class for being "a bully and teasing all the girls"...the valentine says "you look like a monkey and you smell like one too." The boy's name is Blair D'Angelo. There was a whole LS book about Bobby Gianelli being a bully. Why are both the bullies Italian??

^ Maybe because Ann is from New Jersey? Jersey Shore: prime example.

That Scholastic book order is where I got my copy of this book. I also ordered that green pig eraser that's on the front page! I was in fourth grade. I can't believe I remember that...

Love your story and that's cute that you can remember. I love Scholastic book orders and I would probably still order from them today if I had access to them. This makes me want to go to a book fair 'real bad.

I don't remember the cover, I was in a younger grade so Karen books were probably on mine and I wasn't reading them yet. The green pig eraser sounds cute, I don't really remember buying merchandise, it was always books and BSC movies.
