Haha yes I like the idea of Mal having a glittery horse print. Solids: Kristy: red or green Claudia: orange or purple Mary Anne: blue or pink Stacey: hot pink or black Mal: white Jessi: lavender Abby: brown Logan: gray Abby's books the color of a turd? I concur. I forgot about this, but they sort of did the same idea with the newer book covers. Each girl had a pattern that appeared on the front cover of all of their books. Kristy had denim, Stacey an ugly pinstripe, Dawn a paisley (weird choice for her), etc. I think it would have been cool to have them lined up on my bookshelf and be able to see them color coded.

I wish they color coded them too! The pastel was nice at the beginning but the redesign could have been a lot cooler.

Abby's books the color of a turd? I concur. It would have been cool to have them lined up on my bookshelf and be able to see them color coded. It depends on what shade of brown the books were. If the books were a nice shade of dark, deep chocolate brown like most of the BSC's eyes and Mary Anne and Abby's hair color, it would be nice. Yes, I'd love to be able to have my BSC books organized by color and BSC member. That way, if I feel like reading about Mary Anne one day, I'd know where to reach, if Abby another day and so on. I love the idea of different colors for each character. Maybe the trim could have been... Kristy - A baseball/leader design theme Claudia - An artist's theme Mary Anne - Sewing, cats and books theme Stacey - Numbers and math theme Dawn - Earth and health foods theme Abby - Soccer and laughter theme Jessi - Ballet and horses theme Mallory - Writing and horses theme

Those side patterns were weird. I think either Mal or Jessi had shapes, like squares and triangles? I could be completely making that up though, I haven’t seen a hard copy in several years but yeah, those patterns didn’t impress me!

Mallory's had shapes and Jessi's had a yellow and white plaid design.

I didn't either until I dug up a Jessi book a little while ago. There are also pictures on google searches of the BSC book covers if you want to see the covers again.

Good idea - just did. It’s pretty tame and something that might be more fitting to Mary Anne.

Considering the hard time they gave Mal when she joined because of her age Im surprised they allowed the triplets and Jeff become BITs. They were so immature and why should Bsc members fork out a quarter of their money when they were trying to save up? This book didn't make any sense to me and this is when the series start to go downhill.

Maybe because the Pikes were such loyal clients, Kristy thought why not.

I just find ten year old boys as baby sitters hilarious. They're just so immature and in the long run would never commit to it. They did for five minutes and that was enough. Would you really trust a ten year old to look after a baby?
Although it was sweet Adam had flowers for Stacey. Otherwise this book was pointless.

Jeff and the triplets were best friends. Anytime he was in town, he was with them. He also proved to be a good sitter a handful of times.

In theory, this book is bad. It's written by Lerangis so it has obnoxious moments, has kind of a stupid premise, is a Dawn book after she left Stoneybrook (really shouldn't have happened), is mostly about work really, and sets up one of the worst Super Specials.
For some reason, though, it's not bad, at least not in my opinion. The humor actually works for me. A couple of my favorite moments:
“I’d like to JAB your JOKES to BITs,” I said." (I thought this was pretty clever)
and
“Problem: you need a lot of cash, fast,” Kristy continued. “What’s the best way to get it?”
“Rob a bank?” Claudia suggested.
Kristy rolled her eyes. “A special event. Like the haunted house we ran, or the sleepover to raise money for the kids in New Mexico, or Claudia’s art show —”
“A sleepover in a haunted art gallery!” Abby exclaimed."
So yeah, I usually don't vibe with Lerangis humor, but it works in this one for some reason. Jeff and Richard joking was also a good moment... I like seeing them get along after how awkward Family Feud was. The "her y" joke is so bad it's good too. Lol.
Gross af that Byron likes formula. I've smelled it once (haven't babysat and haven't been around babies much) and felt immediately nauseated. Can't imagine ingesting it on purpose.
Otherwise, this book is really convoluted. I find it ridiculous that SMS would allow a waiting list for non-SMS students on this trip. Would this ever actually happen? I can't see it and it feels like a really contrived way of explaining how Dawn got to go on the trip.
Is it crazy to anyone else that the BSC all have to come up with $250 in 4 weeks? Why can't they give their parents whatever they can come up with before then, then pay them back over time? Since they babysit very regularly, it's doable. I do think many parents may not trust their kids to pay them back, but I can imagine the BSC parents trusting them to do so. I'm kind of surprised they didn't just find temporary jobs- might have been more consistent. I mean, in this universe, it's acceptable for 13 year olds to work an official job. Hell, last... summer... (trying to not let the time warp hurt my brain too much), Stacey worked at Bellair's, and Logan works as a bus boy every summer. I don't agree with this (13 is way too young to work imo. Hell, I wasn't even ready to work at 16. First job was at 19), but I'm just shocked that no one thought of this. I did feel bad for Dawn when her health food booth thing totally failed.
Warning: long rant ahead lol
I also just can't deal with everyone saying that Jeff and the triplets are too young. Now, keep in mind I agree that they are too young and I suppose the cutoff has to happen somewhere. But they talk about how they'll be sitting for 9 year olds and that they're only a year older. But Jessi and Mal sit for 10 year olds. The maturity gap is ridiculous. I know there's this saying about girls growing up faster than boys, but come on now. I think in earlier books, Jessi and Mal were written more believably (making gum chains and stuff like that), but now they read the same as the older girls. So the 10 year old kids seem much younger in comparison. I'm writing too much about this, and I guess my histamine-riddled brain might be messing me up, but I just find it so silly that 11 is suddenly so independent and mature (and honestly, I think it's too young to babysit aside from family and maybe, like, a neighbor for a couple hours at most) and 10 is still a little kid. Here's a quote:
“At that age,” Kristy declared, “kids just don’t know enough about responsibility and thrifty … ness — er, thriftity — thriftitious —”
“Thrift?” Abby offered.
“That, too.” Kristy looked toward the door. “Not to mention punctuosity. Where are they, anyway?”
"At that age." Earlier on, the boys are described as "just kids." Mal and Jessi are ONE YEAR OLDER. For some reason, this just bugs me so much.
Unrelated, but another quote just one page later showcasing why I dislike Kristy as an adult:
“I call a vote,” I said. “Who wants —”
“You make a motion,” Kristy corrected me. “This isn’t the We Love Kids Club.”
Oh my god. That is so rude.
Anyway, I ranted about the age thing long enough. I do think the conclusion does actually have some realism to it- the Pikes don't need 2 sitters anymore since the triplets can help out. Seems like sort of a realistic transition.
I did rant about the age thing quite a bit, but tbh, this is still a decent book despite the unbelievability. I think I'd give it a 6.5. Entertainment is like an 8, but there's too much wrong with the logic in this one. Also, this review is probably like 10,000 words long and I have no idea why. I think I'm just bored and tired from allergy season. Blame that. Lol.
