I remember the Gymnasts! Wow i feel old, I only had one book though, Nasty Competition, I think it was about someone being racist.

I just finished reading this one, I was surprised to look in the front and see that it was written by Peter Lerangis. It didn't have the same snark and attitude that most of his books do; it reminded me more of a Nola Thacker or Ellen Miles book. I wonder if his writing style changed as the series went on? One of these days, I'm going to read the series from beginning to end, and I'll do some comparison.

This was the first one he ghostwrote, so his style definitely got crazier as the series went on.

I wonder when (and WHY) Lerangis got liscence to deviate from Ann's style? Personally, I think Miles, Thacker, and Wynn (sp?) did a good job of keeping their styles pretty consistent with Ann's. But Lerangis....

"It may have been Ms Besser, I'll have to double check that. Even so, it didn't seem likely to me that Ms Besser would have such an immediate recollection of Dawn Schafer and be asking about her so enthusiastically as if she'd been lying awake at night worrying about her welfare."
Macca, I know you wrote the above 3 years ago (I just am reading this thread tonight after having re-read this book) and had to thank you for the LOL!
I also loved the food descriptions except for the whole wheat pizza (yuck imo). Haley was hilarious and the sleepover was fun to read about. I wish a member of the BSC or someone from SES had visited Zuni as an exchange student...or maybe a Zuni kid to CT.
Question though...what exactly did Kristy and Stacey do?
Dawn: queen of the whole deal (for once I have to commend her) MA: Shared Barn Donation Duty with Dawn and oversaw Madame Leavoux. Claudia: Rodowsky's Yard Sale Mal and Jessi: Carnival at the Pikes'

I don't think whole-wheat pizza is very good. I tried making a pizza crust with half white flour and half whole-wheat flour and it was still much too...wheaty. And sort of dry. So I can see why the kids weren't too enthusiastic about it.
Now that you brought it up, I can't remember Kristy and Stacey doing anything except helping out at the sleepover.

I don't see why anyone other than Dawn would be either. Back to this and the Ms. Besser thing. I don't understand why if she's married her name title is Ms. Besser either. The same thing happens in Jessi's Wish. Ms. Simon, who is also married. Unless both women kept their maiden names? Though lol we know that Ms. Besser way back when in Book #15 was a Mrs. so maybe she was angry with Mr. Besser in this one for not instinctively recognizing Dawn's voice over the phone! ...

I find I like whole wheat pizza better with more unconventional toppings (which are often not kid-friendly, although I'm blessed that my one cousin has always been an adventurous eater) and less sauce and cheese. California Pizza Kitchen has a nice wheat crust that is really good with some of the pizzas they do (mmm, I'm on a diet; I shouldn't be thinking about Tandoori Chicken pizza on a honey-wheat crust. . .)

Lol, Alula, much to my Dad's (and sometimes friends) dismay, I am the exact opposite of an adventurous eater. In fact for pizza, I don't care for the tomato sauce so order it without any but with Mary Anne's "extra cheese."

My favorite is sausage and cheese with no sauce, yum! I'm the same way with pasta, I don't like red sauce so I usually eat it with garlic and butter or alfredo sauce instead.

I make pizza with a whole wheat crust all the time (sometimes even a multigrain crust)- but my eating habits are totally Dawn (vegetarian, no white bread, etc.).....although at times I have a sweet tooth that can rival Claudias. My drawer at work has about 8 kinds of candy.

At last a fellow non sauce fan! Hug, sweetvalleygirl99. I don't eat meat but we could still "share" a pizza--at least a birtual one for now. As for Spaghetti sauce, I'm with you there, too except for the garlic. I truly am a very P-L-A-I-N and (boring) eating person. I have never been much into candy but chocolate in ice cream and cookie form! Definitely Claudia there. No hint of Dawn whatsoever.

I've never met people who eat spaghetti like me! I love pasta and eat it with butter and parmesan cheese. I like Alfredo sauce, but tomato sauce grosses me out. Strangely, I'm fine with it on pizza as long as there's not too much of it. Some places you can order double sauce as one of your toppings, icky. On the book topic, I used to think this one looked so fun. My elementary school was very small, so I could imagine them doing an event like the sleepover. I don't think I knew what a lock-in was back then. Then I got to Jr. High and we actually had a lock-in. I didn't go because by that time I didn't think spending the whole night in a school sounded like a good time. Maybe if they offered that whole wheat pizza...

And we could definitely "share" a pizza sometime ;D. As far as eating goes, I'm the complete opposite of plain, I love hot and spicy foods and garlic very much ;D.
